The Ross Street Teaching and Learning Hub will be a welcoming new front door to the University of Sydney’s northern gateway. Our design preserves the heritage landscape while creating a future-proofed, five-storey hub that reflects the values of a globally connected, uniquely Australian university.

The John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct (JHHIP) has reached a critical construction milestone with the ‘Topping Out’ of the $835 million facility. Designed by BVN, the precinct is being delivered by Multiplex in partnership with Health Infrastructure NSW and Hunter New England Local Health District.   John Hunter is one of the busiest hospitals in NSW, and the demand for critical health services is expected to rise as the Hunter region’s population grows by a projected 22% by 2036. The new JHHIP will see the existing John Hunter and John Hunter Children’s Hospitals expanded to include a brand-new Acute Services Building (ASB), providing an additional 40,000 square metres of clinical floor space over seven levels. To mark International Women's Day, we came together to celebrate, reflect and renew our commitment to accelerating progress towards gender equality. Two diverse panels of BVN women joined conversations in our Sydney and Brisbane Studios to share their achievements, challenges and experiences across their architecture, design and technology careers. As a collective, we paused to reflect on what BVN is doing to help close the gender gap by monitoring gender composition, supporting flexible working, offering paid parental leave, and committing to equitable recruitment. We’re all about bringing the best minds together. BVN welcomed Foster + Partners to our Brisbane studio for a collaborative workshop on the future of stadium precincts. Exchanging ideas on innovation, sustainability, and large-scale sports and community infrastructure, we developed ideas that will continue to shape our thinking as we look ahead to future opportunities.

The new Sydney Fish Market’s roof is now complete! The last of 400 roof cassettes has been secured atop the 200 m-long undulating timber canopy, completing the new Sydney Fish Market’s dynamic roof form. The giant solar roof generates power, captures rainwater and draws sunlight and air inside. It’s a testament to cutting-edge engineering and environmentally sustainable design. Spanning 20,000m² (nearly three football fields), it comprises 594 glulam beams — the longest at 32 metres and weighing over 7 tonnes — and 407 solar panel-lined cassettes, collectively weighing 2,500 tonnes. Each cassette was assembled at Glebe Island, transported by barge, and lifted into place — precision work on an ambitious scale.
