GBC SloveniaWorld Green Building Council Due to the time value of carbon, 75% of emission cuts required to achieve net zero by 2050 must take place in the next ten years. The scale of investment needed in the global real estate sector to achieve that is huge, with McKinsey estimating an investment of $1.7 trillion every year between now and 2050 is required.

This year’s Global Solutions Forum — the flagship event of World Green Building Council's biennial Leadership Summit — will put an emphasis on #finance as a critical tool to accelerate a #SustainableTransition in the building and construction sector. They are bringing together #sustainability experts and built environment leaders to connect global ambitions with local action; spelling out pathways for enhanced accountability and alignment between industry, policymakers, and the finance community to achieve our 2030 decarbonisation and resiliency goals. Leading for Sustainability!    Late last week, together with a cohort of people leaders in our 2024 Executive U Leadership Development program at York University, we dialogued with each other and our colleague, York’s Chief Sustainability Officer Mike Layton about York’s long-standing commitment to sustainability, and recent and planned achievements in Scope 1, 2 and 3 emission-reductions and many other great examples of pride for this important work.     As leaders committed to developing our leadership practice, we looked at in-role, extra role and green innovation leader behaviours that we can adopt, adapt or amplify to advance York’s sustainability work with our own immediate colleagues and teams. We also looked at how sustainability can be leveraged to innovate our core areas of focus, and we generated some great ideas here!    Thank you Mike Layton, Nicole Arsenault, and program co-lead Ernest Byers, M.A., Ed.D. and our cohort of colleagues.
