Last week we celebrated the launch of our exciting new Stable Squad club at our Glenda Spooner Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre 🎉 With around 400 people in attendance, we were joined by our Patron Esme Higgs, our young Stable Squad Ambassador Claudia Groves, our friends at LeMieux and Baileys Horse Feeds, and World Horse Welfare rehomed superstars, Duke and Lemon, for a fantastic day of fun. From meet and greets and live demos, to hobby horsing, face-painting and ice-cream, we loved welcoming children from all over the country into our Stable Squad family. We have been working with our partners the Cart Horse Protection Association in Cape Town, South Africa for almost 30 years! 🇿🇦 Last year, a Welfare Farrier Training Programme was developed to provide formal skills training for apprentice farriers within the organisation and from the local carting community, in response to the need for more community farriers to combat the rise of poor quality 'backyard' shoeing. The three-month training scheme provides a gateway to trained farriers, and has a huge impact on horse welfare by enabling owners to access affordable hoof care, balanced trimming, professional shoeing services and good quality shoes.
