The OLYMPIC MEDAL TABLE IS NOT AN OFFICIAL RANKING RECOGNISED BY THE IOC. It is based on an interpretation of the media. For US media that prioritise the total medal count, France finished 4th. For the other media that prioritise gold, it finished 5th. In both cases, this does not reflect the real level of France, who has strong performances in very competitive sports (basketball, volleyball, rugby union, football and handball) that do not offer a lot of medals. Our estimation is that France will finish 2nd (for the 4th time in 10 years) in the 2024 World Ranking of Countries in Elite Sport (WRCES, https://lnkd.in/dyUBGDSE), the only scientific index benchmarking nations’ performances in all the recognised sports. Host Nation Performance at the Summer Games #Paris2024 is officially underway! The soccer and rugby tournaments start today, and the International Olympic Committee – IOC will take center stage for the next few weeks. It is often reported that host nations perform better at the Games. This has been the case in recent years: when comparing host nations to their performance at the previous Games, hosts get more medals: #London2012 - 51 UK medals in 2008, 65 UK medals in 2012 #Rio2016 - 17 Brazil medals in 2012, 19 Brazil medals in 2016 #Tokyo2020 - 41 Japan medals in 2016, 58 Japan medals in 2021 However, one metric is often overlooked: these host nations send more athletes. In fact, due to a rise in athlete counts, all three previous hosts saw their medal per athlete drop during their host year: #London2012 - 0.16 medals/Olympian in 2008, 0.12 medals/Olympian in 2012 #Rio2016 - 0.07 medals/Olympian in 2012, 0.04 medals/Olympian in 2016 #Tokyo2020 - 0.12 medals/Olympian in 2016, 0.10 medals/Olympian in 2021 After earning 33 medals in 2021, France will need 50 from their 573 current Olympians to outperform their Tokyo medal/athlete rate. Can they be the first hosts to outperform their pre-hosting medal rate in a generation?

Our Volleyball World Ranking will be used to decide who qualifies for the Olympics for the first time! The World Ranking shows the true sporting strength of all 222 national teams per gender, looking at all matches played in official competitions. Every match and set counts. Here’s how it works: Ranking points are awarded to the two teams by comparing the final result of the match to the expected result based on playing strength. The winning team gains points, the losing team loses the same number of points. You gain more points when beating a stronger team than when beating a weaker team. The ranking is mathematically successful too, with a high predictive power. Twelve teams (per gender) will participate in the Olympic Games Paris 2024, with one guaranteed spot for the host nation, six spots via the Olympic qualification tournaments, and the other five spots through our ranking. #Volleyball #Olympics #Paris2024

The conversion rate was 84% after the first week for French athletes (expected/realized difference)🥇🥈🥉👊🏻…. Claude Onesta (High Performance Manager and former coach of the French men's handball team)👇🏻 🎯"Before the Games, we had identified 102 potential medals and on the eve of the opening ceremony, there were 85, all metals combined. This is a high medal potential. What is wrong in the history of French sport is the conversion rate: how many potential medals are converted into actual medals. In Tokyo it was 50%. We have been working for months with the coach plan, the Gagner en France system and the support for athletes to find all these little details that can cause failure in order to put an end to it" In addition to good preparation, talent, coaching etc... playing at home with such great supporters is certainly also part of success 🇫🇷, context matters when it comes to performance 😉 #olympics #paris #highperformance #coaching #conversionrate

Handball Coach, Growth Marketer & AI Enthusiast | Building US Handball National Teams | Focused on Systems Building & High-Performance Environments
"It pleases me on the one hand; on the other hand, it annoys me. It also makes me a little scared because it doesn't really advance our sport worldwide if only we Germans do it [organize major handball events]. So we do want it to become a global sport and for us to have similar popularity and enthusiasm in other countries as we do here, but in the end, the major events still take place here, and that's not enough. And that would lead the discussion too far to maintain Olympic status. So we have to continue developing [handball] internationally, and with that, I'll end my plea." — Stefan Kretzschmar I agree. Handball needs to exist outside of Germany and Europe. Handball needs to be relevant for the IOC to stay an Olympic sport🤾♂️. The support of the Olympic Games from US companies is significant🇺🇸. The Olympic Partner (TOP) program, established by the International Olympic Committee in 1985, is a category-exclusive program for global companies to become one of the main providers of the Olympic Games. The program features approximately 14 sponsors and some of the US companies that are part of the TOP program and sponsor the IOC include Coca-Cola 🥤, Airbnb 🏠, Bridgestone 🚗, Procter & Gamble 🧼, and Intel 🖥️. These companies invest a total of around $100 million each to obtain the highest level of IOC sponsorship. Therefore, US companies play a significant role in supporting the Olympic Games and the IOC, with their contributions being crucial for the staging of the Games and the operations of every organization within the Olympic Movement. If handball becomes relevant in the US, there is no question that handball will always be an Olympic sport. Handball is the biggest handball market that is still not “conquered”🎯. Stefan, Finn-Ole, Pascal, Mimi - you want handball to grow beyond Germany? We are ready, ready to work. The US is ready for handball. Let´s discuss. - Handball is America's next great sport 🌟. #UShandball #handball #USATH #USATeamHandball #harzblut 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙖 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙘𝙡𝙞𝙥 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 "𝙃𝙖𝙧𝙯𝙗𝙡𝙪𝙩 𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙠," 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 Dyn Media GmbH. Why the Rugby Championship faces an uncertain future New Zealand Rugby and South African Rugby Union (SA Rugby)had reached agreement for quadrennial bilateral tours beginning in 2026. And the impact on The Rugby Championship will be significant. There is no word yet, though, on how the Rugby Australia and Unión Argentina de Rugby will fill their August-September Test windows in those years (in 2026, 2028 and 2030). Should Fiji Rugby Union and Japan Rugby Football Union be included in the rejigged Rugby Championship? It might be more benefit to RA and the UAR on their own arrangements. The Japanese fans are going to turn up, they’re going to fill whatever stadium they get a chance to get to, and the same with Fiji. On the side, Fiji and Japan can become conditioned to tough tests, grow in stature and ultimately become genuine top-tier rugby nations. #sports #business #coaching #world #futuro

Sri Lanka rout India after sluggish start to qualifiers for Rugby Asiad. – BY TREVINE RODRIGO IN MELBOURNE. (eLanka Sports Editor) Five years in Rugby wilderness did have an impact on Sri Lanka’s standards, but they steadied to rout India 45-10 at the Asian region top tier Rugby qualification at the Racecourse ground in Colombo. Political interference and issues off the field relegated Sri Lanka Rugby to the sidelines while the country struggled for redress. With the air cleared now, they have to qualify to play in the Asiad featuring powerhouses Japan, Chinese Taipei, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and other top nations in the region. The win over India catapulted them into the final with Kazakhstan and indications suggest that Sri Lanka, who has been a fierce competitor in the past, can regain their lost mojo in the fifteen man game. Political interference and power struggles with administrators in sport is now commonplace in the beleaguered Island nation pushing them back when in full stride. This setback was no different, ending in the former Sports Minister being sacked to restore normalcy or whatever it means in that part of the sporting world.
