Label 5. It's a name that most Scots don't know anything about but if you come from Livingston, you'll have seen the massive Distillery there. It's kind of a big deal and is a real success story, for Scotch Whisky Exports. Their blended Whisky is already a 'Top Ten', Scotch Whisky, Global best seller. Incredible but true. Grain Scotch Whisky is ALREADY a thing and anyone who likes Bell's, Johnnie Walker or Famous Grouse is already having this, as a large part of a bottle of Blended Scotch Whisky. There also already are a few Grain-only Scotch Whisky Brands but it's never been that fashionable. However, as it's quicker (and cheaper) to make, and as demand for Scotch Whisky is SOARING, expect to see more, like this. #ScotchWhiskyTruths

🥃 Have you ever wondered about the origins of whisky and how it's made? The first record of whisky was in 1494. While the production of whisky had been going on for several years before this, the first official mention of whisky was in the Exchequer Rolls of Scotland on June 1, 1494. It mentions aqua vitae and 8 bolls of malt. Aqua vitae is Latin for 'water of life', the term for distilled spirits, and the 8 bolls of malt would have been enough to make around 1,500 bottles of whisky! The evolution of whisky is truly fascinating! 🌾🔥 To learn more, speak to one of our whisky experts today! #WhiskyHistory #SpiritOfTheAges #WhiskyKnowledge #WhiskyFacts https://ow.ly/f3gq50RnM5v

Monday whisky knowledge - what is single malt whisky? Often considered ‘superior’ among experts, single malt whisky has been made in Scotland since the 18th century. Blended whisky is created from single malt whiskies and grain whiskies taken from different distilleries. A single malt whisky can only be produced from a single distillery. But it can also be made using a single variety of malted grain, typically malted barley. However, single malt whisky need not be the product of one single whisky cask. They are almost always a blend of whiskies taken from several casks. So as long as these casks are all from the same distillery, the final ‘blend’ is considered a single malt. #SingleMaltWhisky #WhiskyKnowledge #WhiskyEducation #MaltMonday For more information about single malt whisky, contact us today: https://ow.ly/HQ4l50SwApg

What's does all of the information on a whisky bottle label mean? It can be pretty overwhelming when you try to decipher the label on a bottle of Scottish Malt Whisky. Distillery produced bottlings are usually kept deliberately simple, but as you will see, the amount of information you can find on the label of an independently bottled whisky can be staggering! In the picture below, the bottle on the left is a distillery core range release, and the bottle on the right is an independent bottling from the same distillery bottled by Gordon & Macphail, a fantastic independent bottler of whisky. Whisky enthusiasts love the transparency and full disclosure that comes with this type of bottling. Hopefully this picture gives you some guidance in your whisky journey. Questions? Comment, DM, or email me and we can delve deeper!

NEW ~ The English Gently Smoked Double Cask 🥃 "Our Small Batch range of whiskies is not only a testament to the great work the distillers do, but it's also great fun to create and normally involves plenty of tasting along the way. The release is no exception. After trying to marry lots of different casks together and ending up with lots of lovely whisky – it is incredibly satisfying when you find a marriage that just works better than others. This release is the result of a perfect union between single malts matured in Bourbon casks & Oloroso casks. The process of taking cask samples and marrying them together in the glass is not fast, and when you finally get a winner, it is prudent to leave it in the glass for some time to see how it will develop. This whisky just got better and better. The end result is a single malt whisky, limited to just 2,100 bottles, that is a joy to drink."
