📢 Transformative Leadership in Motion: A Glimpse into our Journey ✨ In August, the #RiseUp! Asia and the Pacific team met face-to-face in Nepal for the first time after having worked remotely for over a year! From four countries, we united to put our #FeministLeadership values into practice and develop strategies for the future. With YWCA Nepal, we collaborated on ways #YWCARiseUp! can work alongside young women to transform harmful menstrual hygiene management attitudes and behaviors. We were inspired, challenged, laughed together, and strengthened our bonds of mutual respect and feminist sisterhood. 🌻 #YWCALeaders

🌟Rural women play a pivotal role in ensuring sustainable development. They are the true drivers behind food production, preservation of ecosystems, nurturing of family values, and care of children and elderly🙌. However, their immense contributions often go unrecognized, and they are not valued as they deserve to be. Since its inception in Nepal, #GNINepal has consistently witnessed the vital contributions of rural women in turning our vision of creating prosperous and safe communities into a reality☺️. Rural women have been our partners in various capacities—as members of mothers' groups, cooperatives, school management committees, health workers, female community health volunteers, teachers, ECED facilitators, child rights activists, and project participants. Their contributions have been essential in expanding access to education, health, and WASH facilities, nurturing children’s futures in rural areas, boosting rural economy, advocating against menstrual discrimination, and promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices. 👍 On the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women, #GNINepal honors the invaluable contributions of all rural women. We remain committed to empowering, uplifting, and partnering with them to build more prosperous, equitable, and harmonious societies. 🙌✨ #goodchange #EmpoweringPeople #TransformingCommunities

Empowering Kenya’s Women: The Impact of Menstrual & Mental Health Advocacy Advocacy around menstrual and mental health is transforming lives across Kenya, especially for women and girls. By breaking the stigma and encouraging open conversations, more women are gaining access to vital information, sanitary products, and mental health support. Menstrual health initiatives reduce absenteeism in schools, boost girls’ confidence, and improve health, while mental health awareness ensures women and girls get the care they need to overcome stress, anxiety, and other challenges. These efforts also have significant economic benefits—empowered women can stay in school, join the workforce, and contribute to community development. By creating awareness and addressing both physical and mental well-being, these advocacy initiatives pave the way for gender equality and long-term cultural change. Together, we are building stronger, healthier, and more inclusive communities. #HealthyMindsHealthyLives #imarishaDada #MenstrualHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #WomenEmpowerment #GenderEquality @comasi.org

How do we talk about periods? In Myanmar, to this day, many people still shy away from discussions about menstruation, due to the widely accepted societal stigmas surrounding the subject. Recognizing this issue, we embarked on a mission to develop a campaign that would change current perceptions & beliefs and encourage people to speak more openly about the topic. However, how do we create a campaign with impact when the topic is often avoided and not talked about publicly? This is not an easy task, which prompted us to turn to our audience for insights. Our strategy involved conducting Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), a meticulous approach we take when developing campaigns. For this topic, we held different FGD groups representing girls and boys and an older generation of women and men from urban and peri-urban areas of Yangon. The FGDs allowed us to sit with our audiences face to face to gain an in depth understanding of their perceptions, knowledge, social attitudes, as well as misguided stigmas regarding menstruation. Given the variations in Burmese words used to describe technical terms related to the topic, each with subtle differences in cultural connotations, we directly tested language and terminologies with the audience. The result helped define which exact terms to use when talking about periods. In addition, three distinct creative concepts were created by our team prior to the discussion, which helped us gauge reactions of the different audience groups to potential creative concepts and messaging and to select the strongest “big idea” to move forward with for the campaign. We firmly believe the initial step to developing an impactful campaign is to first bridge the gap of understanding between us and the audience. Can you guess which Burmese term we decided to go with for the word “period”? Learn more about the Lifeblood Campaign on the So What!? Page, launching soon! 🌍 International Day of Peace 2024: Building Bridges through Menstrual Equity 🕊️ As we mark the International Day of Peace, peace is not just the absence of conflict but the presence of justice, dignity, and equality for all. One area often overlooked in #peacebuilding is menstrual equity an issue deeply connected to gender justice and human rights. Lack of access to menstrual products, hygiene facilities, and education hinders girls' and women’s ability to fully participate in society. This deprivation not only affects their health but also their dignity, economic opportunities, and social inclusion which are essential requisites for sustainable peace. When girls thrive, communities flourish, and this contributes to a more just and peaceful society. Peace and equity go hand in hand. Whether it's through donating sanitary products, advocating for policy change, or simply starting conversations, we can all play a role in creating a world where menstruation is no longer a barrier to peace and opportunity. 💡 How are you contributing to menstrual equity and peacebuilding in your community? #InternationalDayOfPeace #MenstrualEquity #GenderJustice #Peacebuilding #HumanRights #SustainablePeace #PeriodPoverty #Innovation #Leadership #HumanRights

The National Water Policy and Strategy states “Educational, health facilities and public areas are provided with safe, adequate and inclusive sanitation facilities and services". We at Addis Powerhouse, Includovate and @WISE advocate for a gender- transformative policy that ensures women's safety. Access to water and sanitation should not come at the cost of safety. We call for a policy that is gender transformative in recognizing and mitigating risks of gender-based violence by implementing measures such as developing guidelines and availing safe and inclusive WASH facilities specific to women. Let's advocate for a WASH strategy that is accessible and safe for everyone, women, girls and persons with disabilities. This International Day of the Girl Child, we envision a future where every woman and girl can fulfill her potential. Globally, more than one billion adolescent girls and women are suffering from malnutrition. Too often, they’re the ones eating last and least. But there is still hope. Around the world, women and girls are advocating for change in their communities and inspiring others in the process. They are working to create the future they envision and deserve: a future where every woman and girl is protected, respected, and empowered — and we’re rallying behind them to get there. https://lnkd.in/dwFsDqAY
