#Convocation speeches that are #timeless sources of #inspiration. I just added the 3rd one [👇] to my 2 other ones in a list of all time greats. #Link1: Remarks by Roger Federer, Dartmouth, 2024: A lot of pearls: 1. #Effortless is a #myth; 2. #Belief in yourself has to be #earned; 3. Grit is a Gift; 4. #Discipline is a #talent; 5. #Trust and #love the process; 6. You can do your #best and still #lose; 7. Life is #bigger than the #court. https://lnkd.in/gjYjeuf7 #Link2: Remarks by Steve Jobs, Stanford, 2015: 'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' And whenever the answer has been 'No' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something." "You've got to find what you #love". https://lnkd.in/gh2gzh4m #Link3: Remarks by Naval Adm. William H. McRaven, University of Texas at Austin, 2014: If you want to #changetheworld, start by making your bed every morning. https://lnkd.in/gvpc5XCh

This speech is awesome! "When you are playing a point, it has to be the most important thing in the world and it is! But when it's behind you it's behind you." Don't get stuck on the points behind you. And, don't sweat the points you have to play in the future, training and preparation will take care of those. Focus on the point you are playing at the moment. Full speech here - https://lnkd.in/ddjRuzhf #Learnfromsport #RogerFederer #Focus

Grit, encompassing passion and perseverance, significantly impacts professional success. It's the relentless pursuit of long-term goals and the resilience to overcome setbacks. This quality is essential for achieving sustained success in Entrepreneurship and for all successful professionals . A big shout out to Roger Federer for his commencement speech . Grit>Gift- “Grit matters more than Gift “. Amazing insight . #entrepreneurship #entrepreneurs #founders #businessowners
“Yes, talent matters. I’m not going to stand here and tell you that it doesn’t. But talent has a broad definition. Most of the time it’s not about having a gift. It’s about having grit.” Roger Federer’s commencement speech at Dartmouth over the weekend is a must watch. ***** Enjoy this? Follow Riley Reist for more.

#ICYMI: Our latest #CareersBlog is a great reminder that teamwork can help us achieve things far greater than ourselves. With #Olympic spirit in full swing, we asked Linnaea to draw from her military, collegiate athletics, and program management experiences to share her perspective on what makes an effective teammate. “I liked the unique approach Tony used in portraying the history of baseball and how The United States of America benefited from not just entertainment but also physical & mental fitness for our military troops.” This is one of the first reviews I got from readers of my book, BASEBALL: The New York Game. Although the reader didn’t leave a name, I’m honored nonetheless. #Roger #Federer at #Dartmouth Best #grad #speech of the year? I think so. With an intention to keep this short (considering you're all adults who can derive your own life lessons from this speech), I am just sharing my favorite quotes from this speech: "When you're playing a point, it has to be the most important thing in the world. But when it's behind you, it's behind you. This mindset is so important, because it frees you to fully commit to the next point, and to the next point after that" "Whatever game you play in life, sometimes you're going to lose..a point, a match, a season, a job: it's a rollercoaster with many ups and downs." The #Lesson: The ability to move on from a loss and focus on your next point (target or goal) is so crucial. It can be a defining moment for your future success! https://lnkd.in/ghYxDHpB

Samuel Oluwatoye (thank you!) sent parts of the transcript of this speech and I had to go and find the full video. The 2024 Commencement Address by Roger Federer at Dartmouth was such an inspiring speech. The lessons are profound, and universally relatable. Some of the lessons I took from this are: 1. Only hard work can make work look effortless - Effortless is a myth. 2. Never dwell on past victories or failures. Celebrate or cry if you need to; what's done is done - It's just a point. 3. There is a whole world out there, life does not start and end in that arena (office, school, church, etc) build meaningful relationships and live a life that you are proud of - Life is bigger than a court. What are your key takeaways? Watch it here (feel free to start at 5:40mins) - https://lnkd.in/dNwVk4ig #tennislessons #lifelessons

Executive Director, Advancement - Western Sydney University | Expert in Philanthropy, Strategy Development, and Alumni Engagement.
Question: If we have enough talent in Australia for five teams why are our super rugby teams signing so many NZ and overseas players this year and still losing local talent to Japan, MLR, France, and the UK? They are all doing it and it doesn’t make sense if the argument is we have enough talent to sustain five competitive teams. Clearly we don’t if we are resorting to signing overseas players at the levels we are seeing across all the franchises. Combined across all teams we must now be close to a full 1st XV of overseas players.
📣 New Signing Announcement! 📣 We're thrilled to welcome former Māori All Blacks lock, Tom Franklin to the 2024 Western Force Squad! Read more below 👇 https://lnkd.in/g6m8Q7bR
