It was a great honor to be invited by Jamaica Labour Party, to speak on Using #telemedicinetechnology to transform #PortmoreNorth #Jamaica, which presents a significant opportunity to enhance healthcare access & improve overall health outcomes in the community. From my presentation, it is believed that this transformation can be achieved through #AddressingHealthcareChallenges which should focus on #LimitedAccesstoMedicalFacilities, which will make telemedicine to help bridge the gap between patients in remote areas & healthcare providers, reducing the need for physical visits, especially for follow-up care, consultations, & monitoring chronic conditions. #ShortageofHealthcareProfessionals that through the use of telemedicine, patients can consult with specialists outside #PortmoreNorth, addressing the issue of a shortage of healthcare professionals in the area. #VirtualConsultations can offer virtual appointments for general practitioners, specialists, & mental health support, allowing patients to access medical advice & prescriptions remotely. #Devices can be provided for monitoring #chronicconditions like #diabetes, #hypertension, & #heartdisease. Data collected can be reviewed by healthcare providers to offer personalized treatment plans. Patients can have their #prescriptions filled & delivered directly to their homes, with #pharmacistconsultations available online. Leveraging telemedicine platforms to educate the community on #preventivecare, #vaccinationprograms, #maternal and #childhealth, & #nutrition. Investing in reliable internet services, telemedicine software, & training for #healthcareworkers & patients on how to use the technology, collaboration with private & public health organizations, local governments, & NGOs to secure funding, technology support, and expertise. Involvement of local leaders & community members in awareness campaigns in order to ensure acceptance & adoption of telemedicine services. More residents should be able to access medical services without the burden of travel, resulting in earlier #detectionofdiseases & #timelytreatment. Patients will be able save on travel expenses & time, and the healthcare system will benefit from reduced hospital readmissions due to effective remote monitoring. Vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, those with disabilities, or those in low-income households, will have improved access to care and continuous care & monitoring will lead to better management of chronic diseases & improved overall population health. Exploring partnerships with #governmenthealthbodies, #privateinvestors, & #internationaldonors will ensure ongoing financial support for telemedicine services. Once successful in Portmore North, the telemedicine initiative can be expanded to other communities in Jamaica, scaling up the impact across the island. In our throwback this week, we go back to 2016 when Intelehealth was still coming together as an idea–a time when our founders were still students at Johns Hopkins University. With a mere four-member team, Intelehealth had piloted its first iteration of the telemedicine app at two locations in West Bengal and had already found innovative ways to link up poorly linked rural communities to better healthcare. In some ways, we remain as we were–open-source and constantly seeking new ways to solve the problem of #access to #healthcare in the #lastmile. From a dream of reaching out to 500,000 patients in 2017 to achieving 2 million teleconsultations now, we have come a long way. And we still have a long way to go! #telemedicine #intelehealth #globalgoals #CNN #CNNTech #IHinNews #SDG3 #DigitalHeathcare #HealthTech #3Million #teleconsultations #ThrowbackThursdays Read more about Intelehealth’s early days here: https://lnkd.in/drmM2YSi

More than 600 million people in Africa lack access to basic healthcare services. Half the world lacks access to essential health services and about 100 million people are still pushed into extreme poverty because of health expenses. According to the WHO, 5 children under 5 years of age die every minute. Two thirds of these deaths can be attributed to preventable causes; about 300 000 die from diarrhoea annually and about 950 000 children die from Pneumonia annually in Africa. On 1st August 2024, we officially unveiled MENGA. MENGA is a digital health solution invented by Dr. Luvindao and has been in the works for the past couple of years with the aim of assisting patients throughout African semi-rural areas and informal settlements and suburbs to gain access to prescribed medication without having to travel long distances or acquire out of pocket health costs through the conventional methods of consultation and medication acquisition. With MENGA’s development having commenced years ago, the testing phase was successfully conducted at MENGA’s facilities. With the Intellectual Property of the concept and innovation credited to Dr. Luvindao, the current wish is to launch MENGA for public use in Namibia as soon as the legislation on telemedicine in the country is finalized. However, Dr. Luvindao has started talks for roll out with two other countries and the public will be informed when roll out is set to commence. The process will entail patients consulting with the doctor on call without any internet connectivity through a messaging system. After which they will gain access to their medication at a MENGA located nearby through biometrics. If positioned in local supermarkets and service stations, MENGA can ensure that the entire process on the patient end does not require internet connectivity. MENGA is unique in that it provides real time access to a doctor and medication as opposed to a mere locker system. Secondly, MENGA allows patients to consult and access their medication in their native language, removing the barrier of language and comprehension. Lastly, MENGA’S medication packages are made from recycled paper, making it eco-friendly and efficient. “Innovations like these speak to the need for legislation and policies that are forward thinking and meet the people at their point of need. Telemedicine has also aroused the debate on whether it removes the aspect of human contact however, when approached from the aspect of augmentation as opposed to replacement, one may find that once we embrace digital health, it stands to benefit both patients and healthcare workers” says Dr Luvindao. Thousands of patients queue up daily at hospitals, overwhelming the healthcare workforce. Thus, regulated digital health may be the solution to advance quality healthcare while reducing the burden of the traditional way of doing medicine. https://lnkd.in/du9qZrXb

【Connecting Patients with Human Touch and Technology Combined -- HA Go Health in Your Hand of Hospital Authority Head Office, Hospital Authority #Outstanding #Team #Award 2024】 HA Go Health in Your Hand Hospital Authority Head Office The mobile app 'HA Go' – which keeps patients in touch with Hospital Authority (HA) services wherever they are – has recorded more than three million downloads and has attracted around 2.45 million registered users since its launch in December 2019, connecting patients with #technology. While the Team behind 'HA Go' is constantly innovating, experimenting, and adding new elements, one feature the Team is particularly proud of is the 'Carer' mode that allows family members to provide care for their loved ones. "It is very reassuring to be able to see my mother’s follow-up appointments, her medications, and her daily blood pressure readings," says the spokesperson of the Team. "Even when I am not with them, I can pay bills for my family members via #HAGo, so that they do not need to line up," adding that one account can be used to manage the health records of multiple accounts through authorisation. The introduction of the 'Rehab' function, incorporating telehealth elements, was a timely addition to 'HA Go' just before the COVID-19 outbreak. Relevant services became particularly crucial during the epidemic, as the demand for tele-consultations rapidly increased. Since then, the Team has faced the new challenge of refining and expanding the services, ensuring patients understand and have the awareness to engage in tele-consultations and avoid disruptions or connectivity issues during appointments. Every day, almost 100,000 users log in to the app to access a wide range of functions. The Team is dedicated to developing new features to attract new users, which enable patients suffering from different diseases to manage their health conditions, deepen the use of #telehealth, streamline the specialist clinic appointment booking process, and keep improving payment experience. Another milestone they hope to reach soon is to extend the capabilities of 'HA Go' within hospitals to facilitate inpatient and outpatient processes. The Team’s motto ‘Connecting hearts with technology to create endless possibilities’, encapsulates their commitment to overcoming challenges and harnessing the power of technology. They express gratitude towards their colleagues whose ideas, clinical advice, research, and promotion have contributed to turning the app into an invaluable part of Hong Kong healthcare services. 🌎 Remote Physiological Monitoring, and Rural Health Clinics: CMS Releases Remote Monitoring Guidance for Rural Health Clinics. CMS released guidance around billing issues for remote monitoring services for rural health clinics following concerns from stakeholders regarding uncertainty regarding remote monitoring billing in the calendar year 2024 physician fee schedule. Per the final fee schedule, rural health clinics and federally qualified centers can bill code G0511 multiple times per month as long as provider time is not double counted. The new guidance offers assurance regarding payments for remote monitoring and will likely encourage rural health clinics to offer remote monitoring services. CMS previously released similar guidance for FQHCs.

Remote monitoring tech can cut hospital visits among care home patients by 25%, according to a new study by the health charity Health Data Research UK. The UK’s public healthcare system NHS has implemented a smartphone app in more than 100 care homes, which allows staff to monitor health data and share it securely with healthcare professionals. The result has been more timely interventions and improved care. Additionally, the study found that care costs dropped. Many care home residents face complex health issues, and the app allowed staff to spot more problems before they became serious. As a result, residents also needed fewer hospital visits. The study shows that data-driven solutions like remote monitoring are a promising way to handle an ageing population, where the number of Brits aged 85 or over is predicted to double in the next 20 years. https://lnkd.in/eE8YV7qA
