I am deeply moved and fully support Princess Dina Mired’s recent speech at the World Cancer Congress, where she shed light on the dire situation of cancer patients in conflict zones, with a poignant focus on Gaza. Her powerful message highlighted the stark contrast in how humanitarian laws are upheld in different conflict zones. In Gaza, cancer patients face unimaginable hardships—lack of access to essential radiotherapy, hospitals reduced to rubble, and the heart-wrenching inability to transfer pediatric cancer patients to safety. This situation is a grave reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and prioritize healthcare as a universal human right, especially in war-torn regions. Princess Mired’s call for international solidarity to rebuild Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure is not just urgent; it is a moral imperative. We must advocate for the protection of civilians and ensure that the right to health remains inviolable, even amidst the chaos of conflict. Let us stand together in this call for action, to uphold the dignity and rights of every individual, no matter where they are. #WorldCancerCongress #HealthcareInConflictZones Princess Dina Mired Hanan Balkhy Denis Horgan, Ph.D International Cancer Patient Coalition Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) OncoDaily
Princess Dina Mired addressed the World Cancer Congress, focusing on the challenges faced by cancer patients in Gaza amidst ongoing conflict. In her speech, “Gaza’s Cancer Patients: Navigating the Dual Struggle Between Illness and War,” she highlighted the severe lack of medical resources and the destruction of healthcare facilities. Today, we come together to raise awareness about head and neck cancers, a significant health concern globally and particularly in India. Around 57.5% of global head and neck cancers occur in Asia, with a large proportion in India. Addressing head and neck cancer requires a multidisciplinary approach, with Radiation Therapy playing a crucial role in many cases. By focusing on early detection, advanced treatment options, and comprehensive care, we can improve outcomes and provide hope to patients and their families. Let's use this day to spread awareness, support those affected, and advocate for better cancer care. Together, we can make a difference. #WorldHeadAndNeckCancerDay #CancerAwareness #HeadAndNeckCancer #RadiationTherapy #Healthcare #Oncology #BeatCancer #Hope #Varian #SiemensHealthineers Satish Shankar Dr. Prashant Karajgi. In a concerning trend, Karnataka is witnessing a rise in the number of cases of early stage cancer. Researchers discovered that the state's cancer incidence rate is an average annual increase of 1% in cancer among men and women. There are still a lot of negative connotations associated with the term cancer. However, raising awareness of this illness is essential. I had an insightful discussion with Dr. Shruti S, a consultant in Surgical Oncology, Manipal Hospitals, on the significance of early detection, screening, and prevention. https://lnkd.in/gHy9Dgs8

Breast cancer rates in Haiti are high and breast cancer mortality to incidence ratio in Haitian women is over 60%, the highest of any country in the Caribbean region. Cancer mainly affects Haiti's young, active, and female population. Haitians have a high rate of late cancer diagnoses as well, which can make cancer more difficult to treat. Grand-Bois is home to a community of approximately 65,000 vibrant and resilient people. Only 30% of the population has basic healthcare services. We need your help in changing this statistics.
