1️⃣0️⃣1️⃣ in 101 Words: Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Sequestration (CCUS) The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) introduced several incentives for CCUS. The suite of technology for CCUS is still under development for large-scale use. CCUS has three core elements: 1️⃣ Carbon Capture: capturing and transporting CO2 and other carbon emissions from industrial or waste sources. This can be carbon emissions that are pre-combustion or post-combustion. 2️⃣ Carbon Utilization: using carbon as a feedstock or input for products and services. This can be local utilization, such as use in enhanced oil recovery or transported for use elsewhere. 3️⃣ Carbon Sequestration: permanently storing captured carbon, which can be geological storage (underground) or biological sequestration (soil and vegetation). #ccus #netzero #oilandgasindustry

#CCS and tech #CDR projects will naturally gravitate towards each other and benefit from cooperating in hubs. They will use shared infrastructure, rely on fewer specialized personnel to manage long term reservoir liability, and benefit from economies of scale.
