You may have seen the images: The single red-roofed “miracle house” left after Maui’s Lahaina fire burned nearly the rest of the town down. The masses of blue tarps on homes damaged by Florida’s Hurricane Ian months after the destruction. What these images reflect, albeit from different angles, is one inarguable fact: A resilient roof is key to maintaining home safety in our age of increasing climate catastrophes. How to protect oneself? Historically, it entailed a compromise. Steel roofing is the strongest, most sustainable, and more cost-effective option, but it hasn’t traditionally been recommended for the approximately 40% of Americans who live in coastal counties due to its perceived vulnerability to saltwater corrosion and rusting. Until now. Learn more about COASTALUME: https://hubs.la/Q02G3_q70 #partnerinsights

Hurricane season is officially here! Here are some tips from our partners at Southeast Restoration! Watch out for some of the following things to make sure that your properties stay safe: 💧 Roof Leaks: Check your attic and ceilings after a storm for any signs of water intrusion. Discoloration, dripping, or even damp spots can indicate roof damage. 🚪 Broken Windows or Doors: High winds can easily shatter windows or blow doors open. Inspect your exterior for any signs of broken glass or damaged frames. ⚡ Loss of Power or Flickering Lights: Power outages are common during storms, but flickering lights can also be a sign of electrical damage. 🏚️ Cracks in Walls or Ceilings: Strong winds can stress your home's structure, causing cracks in walls and ceilings. 🌳 Downed Trees or Power Lines: These pose a serious safety hazard. If you see downed power lines, stay away and contact the authorities immediately #RA #RestorationAffiliates #NationalCoverageLocalExpertise #Respond #Restore #Recover #RAMember #RAPartner Southeast Restoration

Natural disasters, particularly hurricanes, are among the most violent forces of nature. They contain powerful winds, torrential rains, and storm waves, all of which may cause destruction over a vast area. One of the questions from the perspective of a householder would be: Is it Possible to Build a Hurricane-Proof House? In a word - no. It is not really possible to construct a COMPLETELY hurricane-proof house. However, modern design, engineering, and construction can afford homeowners options that can render homes hurricane-resistant, if not hurricane-resilient, strong enough to minimise or, at least, significantly reduce damage and greatly improve safety. #disasterrelief #hurricaneprotection #disasterprotection #ecohouse #ecohouseplans #ecotecture #affordablehousing #tinyhouse #structuralsafety

"You've seen a number of events in Louisiana since Hurricane Katrina that have really challenged the existing storm water infrastructure," said Dominic Boyer, a professor at the Rice University School of Social Sciences who co-directs the Center for Coastal Futures and Adaptive Resilience. That's "only going to be more challenging as time goes on," he said. As we enter hurricane season, it's crucial to ensure your property is protected against nature's fiercest forces. With RENCO USA's innovative building system, this protection is built in. Our system has triumphed over rigorous ASTM and TAS standards, proving its resilience against Category 5 hurricane wind loads. With hurricanes producing destructive storm surges, inland flooding, high winds, and tornadoes, robust construction is needed. With its long coastline and warm waters, Florida frequently faces the brunt of these powerful storms. Factors like climate change and rising sea levels only amplify the threat. Remarkably, more than 41% of US hurricanes land in Florida, emphasizing the state's vulnerability. Category 5 hurricanes cause catastrophic damage, destroying structures, uprooting trees, and causing prolonged power outages. To combat this, hurricane-proof housing must withstand extreme conditions. RENCO's system, built with advanced renewable materials and design, is not just a solution but a necessity in these times. It meets these challenges head-on, ensuring durability and safety. Stay prepared and protected with RENCO, where innovation meets resilience. #RENCO #HurricaneSeason #Cat5 #BuildingTheFuture #BuildingSystem #RENCOBlocks #RenewableComposites

During a recent inspection of a multifamily building, I found it in excellent condition, with minimal concrete repairs needed. It was hot, so I had my serious face on again. Maintaining the structure had clearly paid off, helping to prevent the kind of deterioration that’s all too common in South Florida’s harsh climate. 𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭, 𝐈 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭... I spend a good amount of time thinking about the challenges posed by extreme weather, I recently came across an article in the Wall Street Journal about a construction executive building a hurricane-proof home in Miami. https://lnkd.in/ghXjZGxq For those who can't get behind the paywall - the article detailed the extensive measures taken to ensure the home's resilience, including a solid stone foundation, French drains, elevated construction, a backup generator, hurricane-resistant windows and roofing, and a reinforced roof. All these features came with a price tag, estimated by the owner at 15%. While these features are impressive with conventional construction -they are not accessible to most. Our ICON walls are already rated for +250 mph winds and look forward to delivering a fully a complete hurricane proof 3D-printed concrete homes available across the market. I'm curious how effective French drains in extreme flooding situations will be. What are other innovative innovative building techniques and their potential to combat the challenges posed by climate change? #HurricaneProofHome #MiamiRealEstate #HomeSafety #3DPrinting #ConstructionInnovation
