I'm thrilled to present the culmination of my extensive work on a project dedicated to the sustainable production of Acrylonitrile. This initiative has been a journey of innovation, detailed engineering, and sustainability. We successfully implemented a highly efficient pressure swing adsorption unit, achieving over 99% recovery of hydrogen, which sets a new standard for operational efficiency and safety. In the realm of propylene purification, we designed and optimized dual distillation columns, resulting in a 96% purity for propylene and 91% for propane. This not only meets but surpasses industrial standards, ensuring high-quality outputs and significant energy savings. For the generation of Acrylonitrile, we utilized packed-bed reactors to achieve efficient ammoxidation of propylene, integrating cutting-edge catalytic processes to maximize yield and minimize by-products. Our thorough economic analysis revealed a net profit of $113.01 million annually, demonstrating robust financial performance. Key economic indicators such as ROI, NPV, and SPP were meticulously calculated, affirming the project's profitability. Sustainability was at the core of our project, focusing on all three pillars—environmental, social, and economic. From life cycle assessments to ensuring fair labour practices and minimizing environmental impacts, the project embodies a holistic approach to sustainable industrial processes. We also developed a comprehensive HAZOP analysis for the distillation columns, detailing potential hazards and corresponding safety measures. This included advanced process control systems and a robust incident reporting framework to ensure continuous safety and operational excellence. The journey of designing and optimizing the sustainable production of Acrylonitrile has been immensely rewarding. The results showcase not only technological advancements but also a commitment to sustainability and economic feasibility.
