🌟 Reflecting on Today's Housing Conversation at the Rockland County Legislature 🌟 This morning, I had the privilege of attending an impactful field hearing at the Rockland County Legislature, focusing on "Restoring Prosperity in American Communities: Examining the Failures of Status Quo Housing Policy." Hosted by Chairman Warren Davidson and featuring committed members like Mike Flood from Nebraska and our own Rockland resident, Congressman Mike Lawler, the hearing illuminated the pressing housing challenges we face both locally and nationally. 🎥 For a glimpse into the discussions that took place, watch the opening remarks here: https://lnkd.in/eNMenxNV "Special thanks to my colleagues, Mike Flood from Nebraska and Mike Lawler, who many of you know locally. They have been some of the most committed members on housing policy, hosting roundtables in their districts and advancing legislation to address the issues," remarked Chairman Davidson. This dedication brought the Subcommittee's 7th hearing to New York, to Congressman Lawler's district, to witness firsthand the effects of "poorly designed and heavy-handed federal, state, and local housing mandates." The reality in Rockland, NY, as in many parts of the country, is stark: "Housing has already been too expensive, and now inventory is limited. Lawmakers' response is to force mandates, which sounds good on paper but ends up hurting affordability and availability for residents most in need." These words resonate deeply with the experiences of many in our community and underscore the urgency of our mission. Today's hearing was a vital step in acknowledging and addressing the real impacts of these housing challenges. As someone deeply invested in creating sustainable and inclusive housing solutions, I am inspired to continue this dialogue, advocate for effective policies, and explore innovative strategies to ensure housing accessibility and affordability. Final Rule on Community Reinvestment Act Summary On October 24, 2023, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Federal Reserve Board, and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency issued a final rule to strengthen and modernize regulations implementing the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) to better achieve the purposes of the law. The CRA is a landmark law enacted in 1977 to address systemic inequities in access to credit. The CRA encourages federally insured banks to help meet the credit needs of the communities in which they do business, especially low- and moderate-income (LMI) communities, consistent with safe and sound operations. https://lnkd.in/ehTBkAAe
