Some interesting insights into turbines today. Here are the take aways I got: 1. Turbines today are complex 2. As turbines become more complex they need additional maintenance 3. As they need additional maintenance they become more costly Wright One aims to cut this vicious cycle by reducing the number of parts in our product, creating a much simpler maintenance schedule, and increasing access of turbines to more customers.

Vice President - Government Affairs at Delta Air Lines | Strategic Planning | Lobbying | Public Policy | Legislative Relations | Community Outreach | Relationship Management
It was a pleasure joining Roshini Rajkumar and The Crisis Files to explore our commitment at Delta Air Lines to accelerate the aviation industry’s decarbonization journey by scaling Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). SAF is the most promising lever known today to reduce carbon emissions and help reach our sustainability targets. U.S. Airlines have committed to replacing 3 billion gallons of fuel with SAF by 2030 and are working toward a full transition to SAF by 2050. Last year alone, the U.S. produced approximately 14 million gallons of SAF, meaning we have a long way to go before airlines can unlock the potential of this groundbreaking technology. That’s why Delta is working across the value chain to bring stakeholders to the table and scale a robust SAF market, including in Minnesota where we joined partners to launch a first-of-its-kind coalition to scale SAF through the Minnesota SAF Hub. These efforts will support energy independence, create quality jobs in agriculture and help secure the next era of travel. 🌎✈️ Check out the full episode. ⬇️

Is the US Finally Getting 'All Aboard' With Electric Trains?: For the first time, two new all-electric passenger trains are operating in the US, which is woefully behind the rest of the world in electrifying its rolling stock. The Verge: The two new trains are operated by Caltrain. California Governor Gavin Newson and House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi were on hand to take the inaugural ride, which took place on Saturday. The trains were put into regular service the following day, running along the route between San Jose and San Francisco. It's taken almost 20 years since the idea of electric trains was first proposed in California. But officials insisted the new trains will be quieter and faster than the diesel-powered trains in current operation while also providing a better experience for passengers. The two trains will be joined by 17 others that should be in service by mid-September. [...] It shouldn't come as any shock that the US is lagging behind the rest of the world in introducing electric trains. India is on the cusp of electrifying 100 percent of its rail lines, while China is nearing three-quarters of its network. Over 57 percent of the rail system in the European Union is electric. On Friday, DEFRA released an updated version of the Emission Factor Toolkit (EFT v12). This tool is routinely used by air quality consultants across the UK. In this post, Greenavon takes an initial look comparing EFT v12 (the new version) and EFT v11 and begins unpicking some of the potential implications for the review of planning applications across the UK. Unsurprisingly , there was a slow down in the renewal of the UK vehicle fleet in 2020 as a result of COVID-19, which may mean that air quality assessments that did not use apply the precautionary principle when addressing the potential effect of COVID-19 may have underpredicted impacts on air quality. There is also clear evidence of the positive impact of the ULEZ on emissions of NOX across London. Read more...
