#FormulaE is already leading the way in terms of #Sustainability, with the Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sport report identifying it as a global sustainable leader, but how can the rest of the industry learn from its leadership, and what does Formula E still need to improve on? FE has shown that it's possible to have a more environmentally-conscious motorsport, but it's still seen as an offshoot to the much more successful #F1. I think it's time for audiences to have their perceptions of EVs in motorsports challenged, and we need to do more to put this cleaner, greener sport front and centre in the oncoming years. What predictions do you have for the future of sustainable sports events?

In recent years motorsports has grown in popularity and the global sport is on the fast track towards making their sport more sustainable. And, it's no secret that the people at The Australian Racing Drivers Club, powering Sydney Motorsport Park are driving that change in Australia. As the Official Sustainability Partner of the ARDC, we are pushing barriers and fueled by the club's commitment to driving sustainability across their events and venues have seen environmental, social and industry-wide benefits. In our first year, diversion rates increased from 20% to 69.1% through a range of solutions such as introducing additional waste-to-resource streams across events and operations to implementing system improvements. Thanks to this partnership, Sydney Motorsports Park has been ranked #1 in Australia on the Sustainable Circuits Index™ year on year, since the index was established in 2021. #closedloop #smsp #simplycups #sydneymotorsportspark #sustainablesportspark #sustainablevents

🏑 At the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium in Paris, excitement is building ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games – for both sporting and environmental reasons. With less than 100 days to go, the Olympic field hockey test events were successfully held here on our groundbreaking Poligras Paris GT zero turf. 🌍 The action was fast and furious when the French and German men’s and women’s teams went head-to-head on our eco-friendly surface, the world’s only carbon-zero hockey turf. Made from 80% biobased material and green electricity, it is estimated that the Poligras Paris GT zero will save over 200 tonnes of CO₂ for Paris 2024. In addition, the turf was designed for elite-level playability using minimal water compared to conventional surfaces. 🍃 That all adds up to a podium-topping performance for sustainability! 🥇 ⏩Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dTGgsucn #GoGreen #FieldHockey #Paris2024 #WeMakeSport #sustainable #GreenTechnology #Polytan #ParisGTzero Poligras Hockey Turfs

Editor at The Kashmir Monitor , Mentor 1 Ladakh FC- A football team that plays for awareness on climate change!
I personally believe sports and sportsmen are an art and artists. No art survives without patronage. Same is true for sports and sustainability. Sport has to susidize sustainability. There has to be a reason for an artisan to continue with his art. The European sporting elite have the resources to become the patrons of sustainability. #sports #football #sustainability

Sustainability and motorsport sponsorship is an issue that I have covered in the past and is explored once again in this week’s edition of the Sustainable Motorsport Roundup. Sponsors and potential sponsors are more often asking teams and drivers about their sustainability initiatives before they commit and this week you will hear why. I also have a huge update on various developments in hydrogen-powered motorsport, some fascinating developments in ICE propulsion and what Porsche wants out of Formula E. #sustainablemotorsport #motorsportsponsorship https://lnkd.in/gt46e_u6

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮 𝟭'𝘀 𝗘𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗜𝗦𝗔-𝗙𝗢𝗖𝗔 𝗪𝗮𝗿 Beyond the glitz and glamour of Formula 1 a battle of wits, power, and control once raged, reshaping the very foundation of this beloved sport. This is the tale of the FISA-FOCA War, a conflict that wasn't just about regulations but about the future direction of Formula 1 itself. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗻 At the heart of this conflict were two titans: the Fédération Internationale du Sport Automobile (FISA) and the Formula One Constructors Association (FOCA). FISA, an autonomous subcommittee of the FIA, wielded control over the sport's technical and sporting regulations. FOCA, akin to a racing team union led by the astute Bernie Ecclestone, sought greater control over the commercial aspects of the sport. The late 1970s and early 1980s saw this tension boil over, culminating in a series of confrontations that threatened to split the sport in two. The most notable of these was the boycott of the 1982 San Marino Grand Prix by FOCA-affiliated teams, a bold move that underscored the depth of the rift. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: 𝗔 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 The resolution to this conflict came in the form of the Concorde Agreement, a landmark accord that balanced the power dynamics within Formula 1. FISA retained authority over the sport's regulations, while FOCA gained control over its commercial exploitation. This agreement not only averted a potential split but also laid the groundwork for the sport's commercial boom, transforming Formula 1 into the global spectacle we know today. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁 The FISA-FOCA War was more than just a political skirmish; it was a transformative period that reshaped Formula 1's governance, commercial rights, and global appeal. The war and its resolution through the Concorde Agreement underscored the importance of collaboration and compromise in steering the sport towards a prosperous future. What do you think would have happened to Formula 1 if the FISA-FOCA War had ended differently? #Formula1 #FISAvsFOCA #ConcordeAgreement #MotorsportHistory #RacingLegacy

Are there relatively simple fixes that your organisation could make to demonstrate that you genuinely believe in equal opportunity for everyone? Whether it's updating guidance and resources to use gender neutral language (like below), buying good quality female-fit PPE or building ramps rather than steps in your buildings, investing in these areas sends a message about the organisation's intent. What message do you think current employees, potential recruits, investors and customers are receiving if you're NOT doing these things? #inclusion #smallacts
(Most) motorsport regulations are not gender neutral; let's fix it. ⛔ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴? F1 shouts about women being F1’s fastest growing fanbase demographic. F1 Academy is going from strength to strength. Women compete in IndyNXT, the World Endurance Championship, British F4 and many others. Motorsport has a unique platform in that women and men compete in equal machinery. Therefore, it’s not good enough that the regulations for: F1, F2, F3, WEC, Formula E, British GT and World Rally Championship (I’m sure there are sadly many others) are still not gender neutral. 👫 𝗦𝗼, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗻? No, this is not “just” a driver issue, these regulations assume that drivers, FIA officials (including the Race Director), Clerk of the Course, Team Principal and others all exclusively use masculine pronouns. ❓𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀? In my opinion, this is the biggest current issue with the various motorsport regulations mentioned above. It's such an easy fix and would make a huge difference to show inclusivity in motorsport. Hopefully highlighting the problem will lead to change. Read more in the article including examples: https://lnkd.in/eFpGfGHC Or follow on: Instagram (themotorsportlawyer) or X (themotorlawyer) 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 🚗 Most international motorsport regulations STILL use masculine-pronouns to describe (among others) drivers, technical delegates, the race director and team senior personnel 💂♀️ Some regulators (eg Motorsport UK) have already made this change and are setting the standard ⌛ This is an easy change and should be top priority for motorsport regulators 𝘗.𝘚.
