🥳 20 Years with the Same Company - A Wise Choice or a Mistake? This month marks my 20th anniversary at Ramboll, and I have no regrets. One of my earliest and most memorable meetings was a one-on-one with Børge Rambøll, one of the company’s founders. He emphasized that as communication and marketing professionals, we have a unique responsibility to enhance collaboration across the company, leveraging our collective strength in the eyes of clients and stakeholders. His words have guided me throughout my career at Ramboll. I try (don’t always succeed) to start each week with a plan. As part of that I like to spend a couple of minutes reflecting on the last week. Today I thought I’d share some of the things that made me feel good last week: - Team work: I spent most of my week working on a tender. I’m one of those rare breeds who love bids. I like the teamwork, I like the shared purpose and I like the focus on pushing as much as we can to represent WSP in the best way possible. Last week I was working with colleagues who are absolutely passionate about the opportunity we’re tendering for. Passionate about supporting and delivering for their client and passionate about the subject matter. Their enthusiasm and commitment was really great to be around and I really enjoyed working with them. - Technical excellence: I attended the ITS UK Road User Charging Forum. I’ve posted about it already but it was such a good session. The conversations that were had, before and after, really filled my cup and reminded me what I love about consultancy – always seeking different perspectives and ways to make transport safer and better for all. - Recognition: I don’t care how old you are or how senior, everyone needs telling when they’re doing a good job. I was recognised last week (WSP Star Award ⭐) for something I’d worked hard on and something that was meaningful to me. The award was the icing on the cake and something which has set me up for success this week. What are your reflections on the last week? Women from many energy companies met this week in Houston at the WGLC to discuss topics of career growth, skills development, networking, change management and leadership. Shellie Clark, Tenaris Commercial Vice President for Tenaris in Canada, underscored the importance of setting clear career goals and creating a roadmap for professional development during the panel 'Navigating and Developing Your Career: Strategies for Growth and Success'. “Start by understanding your aspirations but recognize that these will evolve. Have a vision for yourself that is based on your values, as these will survive whatever your career choices are,” said Clark. It was fantastic to share Paul Clarke's huge 50th year anniversary with WSP in New Zealand yesterday (WOW!!) and it made me reflect on whether we will see these sort of impressive milestones in the future? At present it feels more common for people to frequently move between companies for the pursuit of better opportunities, higher salaries, and personal growth. Whilst companies should try their best to retain good people through ensuring they receive competitive salaries and are offering development, there are other benefits to the employee in staying in one place that are sometimes underestimated. Here are some other benefits that I have experienced having spent the past 12 years with a single business; 1) An ability to build strong and lasting relationships with colleagues resulting in a healthier workplace and better collaboration. 2) A deeper understanding of its culture and operations (which is also a benefit to the company in continuity of good culture). 3) Confidence to challenge the norm due to deeper feeling of personal investment in the business. 4) Better opportunities for development due to the companies clearer knowledge and trust of you, your strengths and what you can get done! 5) More long term satisfaction through experiencing the companies journey, challenges and achievements. Once again, Congratulations Paul, it's been a real pleasure to have worked with and learnt from you and thanks for your impressive commitment to WSP.
