Luke Littler's phenomenal success in getting to the World Darts Championship Final this week resonates with me in so many ways. Believe it or not, the young Robert 'Newt' Newry, was on the oche in front of a Birmingham crowd over 30 years ago with none other than the 'Crafty Cockney' himself, the late and great Eric Bristow. Unlike Luke The Nuke, I have no real talent for darts and was utterly destroyed, but like Luke, Eric was humble and generous with his post match encouragement. I knew though that my skills lay elsewhere! This is what as TA professionals and hiring managers we can, and should, take away from this week's championship final: 1. Skills come in many forms. Luke clearly has incredible eye-hand co-ordination (hard skill) yet what got him to the final was as much his ability to handle pressure, quick thinking, and self-belief (soft skills). Add to that, his humbleness, unpretension and determination (more soft skills), all of which meant he rapidly became an audience and media favourite (key to sponsorship). Once again we are reminded that experience and hard skills alone do not equal success. 2. He gave hope and belief to thousands of people who have potential that you can make it to the top by demonstrating what you are capable of. This is the joy and brilliance of an 'open' competition. It's not just for the top seeds with lots of experience. If we approached hiring in the same way, how many Luke's would we discover and give opportunity to? 3. Potential needs nuturing. Luke has a great coach and received lots of encouragement. There is talent and capability out there and the role of a hiring manager today is not simply to 'manage' but also to 'develop'. In a world short of digital skills and growing social inequality, hiring for potential and developing skills should be the goal of every organisation. So as you prepare for 2024 and new goals, skills-based hiring will be on many of your company plans - think carefully about how you can open up your talent pipeline to the 'Lukes' of the world. There are pioneers already out there too: Siemens, Molson Coors Beverage Company, Brakes UK #skillsbasedhiring #scrapthecv #hiring #arcticshores

A year ago today, as an intern at Wasserman Media Group, I found myself in a fireside chat with golf executives when the news of the LIV Golf and PGA Tour merger broke. The announcement sent shockwaves across social media, igniting a pandemonium of predictions that these two giants of the men’s professional game would remain at odds. Today, the divide remains evident, highlighted by the contrasting spectacles of the PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament in Ohio and LIV Golf’s Houston event. As an Entry-level DE&I Cultural Strategist, I’ve observed firsthand the challenges and missed opportunities in bridging such divides. The ongoing stalemate underscores the complexities of merging not just organizations but cultures and visions. Personal Take 👩🏾💻 ⛳ : To create a more inclusive framework for the merger, my approach would focus on integrating the core values and strengths of both organizations. This means fostering a culture of open dialogue and mutual respect, where diverse perspectives are not just heard but actively integrated into decision-making processes. By leveraging DE&I principles, we can build a unified vision that honors the rich histories of both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf while paving the way for a new era of innovation and inclusivity in the sport. In this new era, we would create joint events that celebrate diversity, implement shared governance structures, and develop community engagement initiatives that reflect our commitment to inclusion. Together, we can turn this period of contention into a powerful example of how the sports industry can lead to unity and cultural transformation. #DEI #DiversityAndInclusion #CulturalStrategy #GolfIndustry #LIVGolf #PGATour #GolfMerger #SportsLeadership #InclusiveFramework #GolfInnovation #ProfessionalGolf #SportsManagement #GolfCommunity #UnifiedVision #GolfCulture #SportsDiversity #GolfEvents #InclusiveGolf #SportsIndustry #CulturalTransformation

Co-Founder, CEO at Knorish - Business World Young Entrepreneur (35 under 35) | Times 40 under 40 |Empowering businesses to grow with AI and Education Marketing|
Brad Pitt chose this brand. Elvis Presley loved them. Rockstars write songs about it. You don't have to be a biker to recognize Harley-Davidson - a brand synonymous with big, loud, and fast bikes. It's not just a machine; it's a legacy! Three secrets behind their global success: 1. The Harley Owners Group (HOG) It's much more than a club, it's about belonging and brotherhood. 2. Rallies And Events Rallies like Sturgis, Daytona, and global events attended by hundreds of thousands of riders - a confluence of stories and love for the bikes. 3. Education as Empowerment Harley-Davidson University & Riding Academy go beyond riding. They connect riders with the culture and story behind these machines. So this is how they did it and here's how you can do it for your brand as well: - Create your own community where customers feel they belong and can share their passions. - Build your brand around core values that resonate with your audience. - Host events that align with your brand & bring your community together. - Offer educational content with resources that enrich their appreciation of your product or service. - Use digital platforms to amplify your events' reach and engagement. Remember: It's not just about the product. It's about creating a story that connects people at an emotional level. In 2024, community building is more than a strategy. It's at the heart of lasting success. Your brand isn't just what you sell; it's the community you nurture and the stories you share. #CommunityBuilding #HarleyDavidson #BrandLegacy #brandgrowth

I recently made a mistake when celebrating a great month in our company. We blew away our goal and I wanted to recognize our team. Instead of just congratulating our team for their great accomplishment, I threw in the dreaded "but" at the end of it. "but, next month will most likely be much different." There was no need for me to do this. I intended to shield them from a possible letdown the following month since we always have a strong January. The "but" was not necessary at that time (and probably not at all). Celebrate your wins. Recognize the success of your team - the other stuff can wait. A well-informed team already knows of the challenges that may lie ahead and is prepared to handle them. Let celebrating your wins stand on its own. Do not dilute what your team accomplished. Interestingly, February came and they beat our target for that month as well.....and did it again in March.

Vistage Chair | Mentor, Coach, and Facilitator | Inspiring CEOs, Business Owners & Leaders to Grow Themselves and Their Companies
Here is just an example of the exceptional content and speakers we bring into our peer advisory groups. Chris will be back this week to talk with our Advancing Leader group; our Key executive group and a couple of our chief executive group. I have used his information many times as I guide our members through their war on talent. His insight into finding talent is fresh and refreshing. If you are someone that says "people don't want to work" or "you just can't find people to fill our openings," it might be time to look in the mirror and start questioning what you need to do differently in searching and/or how you need to be communicating differently about your openings. I just had a conversation last week with someone complaining about the inability to find a certain type of worker and suggesting that there was something wrong with these people. When I asked, in a curious (not confrontational) manner, "why would they want to work for you?" I was met with silence - the individual had no good answer other than they should. This folks, is an example of how we have lost site of what our prospective employees are wanting. This is just one example of something Chris taught me. If you are still hiring like you did 10 years ago - even 5 years ago, it's time to rethink your strategies. Chris has lots more strategies and wisdom that you can read about in his book. Founder | CEO @ ABSTRACT Commercial Real Estate LLC. 10 Years of Retail, Restaurant + Mixed-Use Development Advisory. I negotiate NNN Leases, Sales and Investment Sales with winning results
Ewing x 2 My nephew, Isaac Ewing, returns on Friday for his 2nd Summer with ABSTRACT Commercial Real Estate. I couldn't be more excited...and on several levels! Here's a few: ✅Positive Attitude - that's a full sentence there! ✅ Dependable - I know he'll be there when promised and on-time ✅"Yes" Energy - he's open to new ideas, projects, meeting tenants to developers, etc. ✅Trust - It takes years to create/nurture relationships, generate the deal experience/niche knowledge, the systems that create the bedrock, etc. He understands what's confidential to the firm. ✅EQ - Despite being 17, he has terrific reasoning skills and doesn't "react;" rather, he chooses how to best move forward. ✅Goal-Oriented - He's a distance runner and can see the end goal 🎯 and create the steps in between to arrive at a winning finish. Taking a moment out to share a proud moment, a couple weeks ago, he competed in the 2024 Adidas Track Nationals competition in North Carolina. I'm excited to share he took 1st place 🥇in the Boys 2-Mile National Elite! Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/g4C3PB9z ✅Humble - This is yet another trait he exhibits which makes him even "brighter" in my life. He exudes a quiet strength or knowing. ✅Team player - He works well independently and with the rest of the team. This is a true gift and I know he is going far in life! If you're tired of your retail or restaurant vacancy, DM me. We help owners win! #distancerunning #adidasnationals #2milerace #commercialrealestate #universityofwisconsinmadison #track #retailrealestate #madisonwi #madisonwisconsin
