In other words, the entertainment world is craving for new blockbusters that will captivate millions of viewers, and a significant portion of them are expected to be based on computer games. Most games business models have an equivalent. - Ad supported viewing and gaming is well known. - Selling a copy of a game is like selling a cinema ticket or a digital version. - Subscriptions is the dominant model in tv and Film. But there is one other model that has not been adapted for TV and Film. Its the dominant model in games accounting for 85% of the $180bn market. The Next IP Two separate articles came out this week, one in The Wall Street Journal and the other in TheWrap both of which talk about how gaming IP will be the next source of content for Hollywood. The top movie in the US last year was #barbie and the #2 was #supermario from NBCUniversal ,Illumination and Nintendo Previous gaming hits include #sonicthehedgehog from SEGA and Paramount Pictures Japan has a tremendous library of gaming hits with recognizable characters. That these characters can be sold as movie rights along other monetization streams such as anime, games, trading cards, etc has the potential to bring back to Japan some extra cash which can be used to double down on #softpower initiatives. The Borderlands movie actor choices are drawing some attention after a teaser for the movie has gone live. Fans always argue about who should play the role of their favorite characters whenever a new video game movie is made. Unfortunately, there seems to be a universal agreeance with the Borderlands movie that there were some poor choices made by the higher-ups. The comments weren’t only focused on the actors but how they were portrayed in the 10-second teaser. We miss the days when people were just hyped about Borderlands 4.
