It's no secret that tapping into the news cycle is a powerful way to secure media opportunities for clients. But there are two hard and fast rules: 1️⃣ They must have some kind of meaningful, unique context or insight to offer. 2️⃣ They must act quickly, in both gathering their insights and reacting to opportunities when they arise. If either of those rules is broken, it's going to be a tough slog and most likely a waste of everyone's time. Finding success with a newsjacking (🤮 I hate that term) campaign is hard enough; foot-dragging, a lack of clarity, and a lack of responsiveness will kill the campaign. The media don't owe us anything. We earn every single opportunity. Failing to recognize and respect that shows a clear lack of commitment to the entire effort.

When you’re employed, some people look around their industry at people doing a similar job with the same job title and think many things, not least, how on earth are they doing this job, or that your accomplishments are greater. It happens at every level of Housebuilding. Being competitive in business and in life is fine, until it becomes an obsession. Knowing or believing that you’re smarter than others isn’t a bad thing. In June I’m launching ‘Cream’. I wonder who will apply to be part of the selection? I’ll give you a clue. It’ll be those people who believe they are the smartest in their discipline and deserve top jobs or the best they can be at the time. As for the reasons behind the Cream initiative, I have a formula that has improved people’s lives financially and their desire to be recognised and rewarded for their accomplishments. When I present a Cream candidate to a client, they know that the candidate will fit-in, do a great job and become a huge asset. Don’t cry over spilt milk.
