Cultivating a Global Perspective, Starting from Childhood! The theme of this session: Animals and Habitats. As WASCZ students embark on the journey of nurturing a global perspective, it's crucial to begin at an early age. Through exploring themes such as animals and their habitats, we aim to instill in children a profound understanding of the interconnectedness of the world and the importance of environmental conservation. In this session, we will delve into the fascinating world of animals, their diverse habitats, and the delicate balance of ecosystems. Through engaging activities and discussions, we will empower children to become stewards of the environment and advocates for wildlife protection. Together, let's inspire the next generation to embrace a global mindset and take action to preserve our planet for generations to come. #WycombeAbbeyInternational #WAIChangzhou #WAIGlobalPerspective #WAIAnimalsAndHabitats

🌍What does it mean to decolonize our relationship with the land? 🌱 “Up to 22 percent of the global lands owned, occupied, or used by Indigenous peoples contain an estimated 80 percent of global biodiversity.” This makes it clear: successful conservation requires integrating Indigenous Knowledge, wisdom passed down over thousands of years. Indigenous Peoples have long been the stewards of these lands, shaping the ecosystems we depend on today. This article I authored highlights the vital role of Indigenous Knowledge in modern conservation, reminding us that honoring this wisdom is key to protecting the planet for future generations. World Nature Conservation Day 2024 Today, we celebrate World Nature Conservation Day with the theme “Connecting People and Plants, Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation.” This day reminds us of the importance of protecting our natural resources and embracing innovative ways to preserve wildlife. At Kuyili Organization, we are dedicated to connecting people with nature, especially in the beautiful regions of Kallakurichi and Kalvarayan Hills. Through our various programs and initiatives, we aim to foster a deeper appreciation for the environment and its vital role in our lives. Environmental Education: We conduct workshops and educational programs in schools, teaching children about the significance of birds, butterflies, and other wildlife in our ecosystem. Conservation Projects: We actively participate in conservation projects that focus on protecting the diverse flora and fauna of Kalvarayan Hills. Community Engagement: By involving local communities in our efforts, we promote sustainable practices and encourage a collective responsibility towards nature conservation. Join us in our mission to protect and preserve our natural world. Let's embrace digital innovation and work together to ensure a healthier, greener planet for future generations. #WorldNatureConservationDay #KuyiliOrganization #ConnectingPeopleAndPlants #WildlifeConservation #DigitalInnovation #Kallakurichi #KalvarayanHills #NatureConservation

Such inspiring and hopeful insights and tools from conservation work accomplished with Indigenous Peoples in Bolívia: “As we look to the future, conservation is no longer an externally imposed task, but a shared responsibility. Progressive alliances have evolved towards the ownership of conservation by Indigenous territorial organizations or, as we call it, "Conservation by Indigenous Peoples". Sustainable natural resource management, cultural recovery, territorial defense and autonomous decision-making are the foundations on which Indigenous Peoples are building their own path to a resilient future.” #conservationwithpeople https://lnkd.in/ekSsQRCS

WILDLIFE CONSERVATION IN SEPIK WETLANDS Sepik Wetlands, a haven for biodiversity in Papua New Guinea, confronts imminent threats like deforestation and habitat degradation. Sepik Wetlands and Peatland Limited spearheads conservation efforts to safeguard this ecological treasure. Our initiatives encompass habitat restoration, anti-poaching measures, and community education to foster environmental stewardship. By partnering with local communities and indigenous groups, we ensure sustainable resource management while preserving traditional livelihoods. Furthermore, our monitoring programs track species populations and ecosystem health, guiding conservation strategies. Through these integrated approaches, we not only protects endangered species such as the New Guinea crocodile and numerous bird species but also maintains the ecological balance of this vital wetland ecosystem. #BiodiversityConservation #CommunityEngagement #EcosystemProtection

BirdLife International BirdLife South Africa Mark Anderson I need a discussion on #FLYWAYS: The protection of such species flyways, especially the avian category, is critical. We trust you must have discussed these. My concern is Birds navigate along more or less regular routes when they migrate. In North America, these “avian superhighways” are generally grouped as the Atlantic, Mississippi, Central, and Pacific Flyways. Well, the shortest is the Central Asian Flyway for Asia. Across Africa, the trans-antlantic is the longest as we recieve birds from Europe to Cape Town. There are increasingly more human activities, especially unregulated fishing along this flyway that affect both roosting, nesting & feeding sites. I would be more ecstatic to read new resolutions on protection of flyways from mushrooming human activities, especially at the coast lines.

CONSERVATION CONVERSATION WITH BIRDLIFE SOUTH AFRICA 🇿🇦 ❤️ Today at 19h00 (SAST) on Conservation Conversations, join #Mike_Buckham Chairman of the Cape Bird Club, and Cliff Dorse, Head of the Conservation Services Unit in the City of Cape Town's Biodiversity Management Branch. In this webinar, Mike and Cliff will speak on the events that transpired when the Cape Bird Club celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023. The duo decided to run a Birding Big Year within the boundaries of the City of Cape Town to encourage birding in the city as well as to assist the city in gathering data on bird distribution to support the expansion of conservation areas in the city. The challenge created a lot of enthusiasm within the birding community, resulting in many birders enjoying the city's birds during 2023. They will share some of the ideas behind the challenge, as well as photos, statistics, and fun moments from the year. This is possible under the visionary leadership of Mark Anderson

I've been on the road the past few weeks, spending time with our dedicated team at Mt Gibson Wildlife Sanctuary to help release Chuditch (Western Quolls) "beyond the fence" as part of a larger research project. We've also been hosting journalists to demonstrate the effectiveness of private conservation, giving talks on the interconnection of climate change and biodiversity loss, and strategizing with my private conservation colleagues through #ALCA. It's been a remarkable period, showcasing what can be achieved. During this time, we also saw the results of the Federal Budget, which sadly indicates a continued decline in funding for our dwindling biodiversity. In real terms, the budget reflects a contraction in biodiversity funding, despite alarming findings from the State of the Environment report and the recent ANU & TERN Australian Environment report. This post is not about criticizing the government—they respond to political priorities and social pressures. Clearly, as a society, we are not prioritizing our unique wildlife, and this must change. At AWC, we refuse to accept "management by benign neglect" and watch species slowly disappear. We will marshal our resources, engage our communities, and demonstrate that if the government can't shoulder the accountability, then we in private conservation can and will. It's time for change. 🌍 Community-Driven Conservation: A Path Forward 🌍 Our planet faces serious challenges, but community-based initiatives can drive real change. Kaddu Kiwe Sebunya from #AWF highlights how restoring Tanzania’s Manyara Ranch benefits both people and wildlife, Frans Schepers from #RewildingEurope stresses that nature can heal itself with the right conditions, while Francisco Delgado Mena from the #CorcovadoFoundation shows how local projects, like lighting a soccer field, reduced hunting and boosted community development. These are just some of the key takeaways from this week’s article, reminding us to rethink our approach to nature for a more sustainable future.
