🌬️ Exciting times for Offshore Wind! 🌬️ This week, we celebrated a monumental achievement in sustainable energy with the commercial operation of the 132MW South Fork Wind array in New York. 🌱 It's incredible to see this project flourish after an 11-year journey, marking a significant milestone for the US offshore wind industry. Starting operations last March, South Fork stands as a symbol of persistence and innovation. Consisting of 12 turbines, it may be smaller compared to the flagship Vineyard with its 64 turbines, but its successful launch in less than two years post-construction is nothing short of an engineering marvel. This project not only provides clean energy but also showcases the growing capabilities of renewable energy infrastructures. As we continue to push for net zero by 2050, projects like South Fork highlight the importance of dedication and collaboration among industry professionals, environmentalists, and stakeholders. Let's use this momentum to drive further progress and expand our efforts in sustainable energy solutions. What are your thoughts on the future of offshore wind in the US? Following up on yesterday's post about the challenges of the wake effect in large-scale offshore wind farms we are encouraged by the innovative strides regarding the new lightweight floating platforms developed by Ocergy. This advancement represents a significant breakthrough in offshore wind technology, particularly for sites with deep waters where traditional fixed platforms are not feasible. By reducing costs and simplifying assembly through modular design, these platforms could greatly enhance the scalability and economic viability of offshore wind projects, marking a crucial step towards achieving sustainable energy targets. In addition, it may enable turbine placements that have to this point been unfeasible. How significant do you think the impact of this technological innovation will be on the US offshore wind efforts? Let us know what you think by starting a dialog in the comments section. #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #Innovation https://lnkd.in/ds4-CfDg

🌬️ 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆! POLARIS’ Managing Partner Claus Hilpold, along with Sandbrook Capital's Co-Founders and Partners Kenneth Ryan and Christopher Hunt, visited NeXtWind, one of Sandbrook's portfolio companies. A big thanks to Lars Meyer, Co-founder of NeXtWind, for hosting and providing insights into NeXtWind's growth plans in German Wind Repowering! NeXtWind owns a portfolio of 21 wind farms with almost 150 wind turbines, totaling over 750 megawatts in repowered condition. This year, they’re aiming to expand their portfolio to an output of 1 gigawatt when repowered. Kenneth Ryan explained the attractiveness of this strategy, particularly in Germany. With more than 18,500 wind turbines older than 15-years and therefore approaching the end of the 20-year feed-in tariff, repowering makes sense. Older turbines are replaced with modern state-of-the-art wind turbines, which can typically triple the production yield of a wind park, making the site not only more efficient but also reducing regulatory risk, given that German spot power prices are close to the feed-in tariff. Additionally, Christopher Hunt highlighted that compared to pure Greenfield projects, repowering enjoys shorter permit approval times and allows analyzing historical wind data from the old turbines during the due diligence to properly assess risks. If you want to learn more about #Energy Transition and Sandbrook’s contribution to a cleaner world let us know or meet us in Berlin at the upcoming Global InfraSummit Conference. #polaris #sandbrook #nextwind #energytransition #infrastructure #renewableenergy

Harnessing the power of wind has long been a cornerstone in the journey toward a sustainable future. Offshore wind farms have been pivotal, offering vast energy potential while preserving land use. However, as we advance toward net-zero goals, the emergence of onshore wind farms is gaining momentum. Onshore wind farms present an incredible opportunity to accelerate our green transition. They are cost-effective, easier to install, and can be integrated into local communities, providing both energy and economic benefits. With technological advancements, onshore wind turbines are becoming more efficient, quieter, and less obtrusive, making them a viable complement to offshore projects. Together, offshore and onshore wind farms are not just solutions for today but essential building blocks for a net-zero future. By leveraging both, we can ensure a robust, reliable, and renewable energy infrastructure that drives us toward a cleaner, greener world. #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #WindFarms #NetZero #GreenEnergy #Innovation
