The Gift of Today In the relentless pursuit of tomorrow's aspirations, we often find ourselves entrapped in the anticipation of what lies ahead, inadvertently overlooking the precious gift bestowed upon us today. Today is not merely a placeholder between the past and the future; it is a present, a parcel of gift awaiting to be unwrapped with gratitude. It is a sanctuary of moments, worth our celebration. As we hustle and bustle for the fulfillment of our ambitions, let us pause for a second, and recognize the array of gifts we are blessed with; the gift of life, the laughter of loved ones, the roof over our heads, the clothes on our bodies, the food on our tables, the peace in our households; these realities are not mundane but answers to prayers we prayed yesterday. The gift of today extends beyond personal celebrations; it is also an opportunity to bless. Today is a receptacle of kindness, compassion, and connection. We can extend a helping hand, share a word of encouragement, make a positive impact on the lives of those around us with today’s little while we work towards tomorrow’s abundance. Are you praying for a child? Be a blessing to someone’s child today. Praying for an open door, open up your doors to someone in need. Whatever you’re praying and working hard for, extend similar help to a stranger or loved one today. By embracing this gift, we make proof of the gifts of today and contribute to a ripple effect of positivity that transcends the boundaries of the present moment. Let us not be so preoccupied with the dreams of tomorrow that we miss the enchantment of today. For in acknowledging the gift of today, we unlock the door to a life filled with profound moments, meaningful connections, and an enduring sense of fulfillment. Today is not just a fleeting moment, it is a treasure trove of blessings waiting to be enjoyed. Remember, the present is the future you anticipated for in the past. Even though you don’t have it all together now, you have all you need for today. NB: I do not own any rights to the image used.

Here's something fun for next weekend at the Library! Circuit-bent kids toys, tape machines, retro synths through guitar pedals, along with other oddities such as solar panels, nabbed from broken garden lamps that become audio oscillators when mashed together with computer fans and bike lights - built upon the works of my buddy Adam Ben-Dror. Anyone working in education or with a passion for city planning is welcome to stop by for a chat about ways that STEAM projects and creative spaces, with collaboration and connectivity across Dunedin, could be provided to people of all socioeconomic backgrounds both easily and affordably by harnessing resources that are lost via waste streams. The e-waste world is full of musical items that provide a tangible and engaging link to the principles of physics, electronics and engineering. A motor from a tape machine demonstrates gear reduction, the copper wire pulled out of the motor and rewound can demonstrate electromagnetism, which taped to a piece of paper and connected to an amplifier shows how electromagnetism transforms electricity into sound waves.. and so on. The hugely popular MakeRoom Wellington, where I used to work, have been lightyears ahead on all of this 👏 👏 👏 Although they give 110% every day, as well as a large portion of their family home to make it work and have almost no holidays, I've witnessed how incredibly challenging it has been to upscale and achieve wider acknowledgement and recognition under their own steam. It's a difficult one to unpack why it's like this, or how such a brilliant example can continue to fly under the radar of those in a position to support and enact greater change. In saying all of that, thanks to the Dunedin City Council Waste Minimalisation funding team for their support with this project and I'm really looking forward to updates on the upcoming waste plan!
If you happen to be in the neighbourhood on Saturday the 18th of May around midday, we'll be in the Library helping anyone to connect up miscellaneous gear and make cool sounds!
