City of Cape Canaveral's Mixed Use FLU Webinar
~Thu, Jun 27, 2024 12PM - 1PM
Join us for a webinar that goes into the background of the City of Cape Canaveral and its development during the mid-century as the Space Race was picking up, bringing with it development patterns that are impacting us to this day – namely, over-paving and sprawl. .
Additionally, the presentation will frame the conversation in the context of the city’s incredibly vulnerable geographic position between the Banana River and Atlantic Ocean.
Cape Canaveral is almost entirely built out and has experienced a large degree of flooding, which is only projected to get more intense with projected sea level rise.
In response, the city is taking various steps to improve infrastructure all around, and a major part of the MXU FLU designation centers around its strong encouragement of low impact development/green stormwater infrastructure.
For example, development typically maxes out at 15 units/acre in the city, and the only way to get 30 units/acre is to apply for a change to MXU and implement several from a long list of LID/GSI designs. If you're curious about how the city is approaching this critical topic, you won't want to miss this webinar!
