I help ensure your civil, construction & marine infrastructure project's are delivered on time, within budget & with minimal risk.

Guide to Cost Standards for Dredging Equipment 2024   Recently the Guide to Cost Standards for Dredging Equipment 2024 was published by CIRIA. It is an indispensable resource for anyone involved in dredging and marine infrastructure projects, including consultants, current and prospective clients, project financiers, insurers, and dredging contractors. It aims to provide a standardized approach for assessing the 2024 capital and related costs of various dredging equipment and auxiliary machinery commonly used in marine infrastructure projects.   The last version update was in 2009 and in the intervening years an indexation was used however with the rapid development of dredging equipment the industry recognised that the Cost Standard needed to be revisited.   Inframara’s Kenneth Willems was part of an independent assurance group of individuals involved tasked with producing the 2024 update.   The guide is organized into four comprehensive sections, offering essential guidance and insights for informed decision-making and effective project planning:   Section 1: Introduction Section 2: Description of Common Dredgers and Dredging Equipment Section 3: Summary of the Principles of Cost Standards Section 4: Cost Standard Tables   Whether you're planning a new dredging project or managing an ongoing one, the Cost Standard publication gives you an insight to understand the financial aspects of dredging equipment. However to fully appreciate the nuances it does need an expert touch as it only derives the standard values (V), the standard rates for depreciation and interest (D+i) & for maintenance and repair (M+R) from technical, statistical & economic data.   Users of the cost standards should be aware that equipment can have significant differences, especially in larger sizes where company-specific designs target niche markets. Therefore, the Cost Standard users should consider current and future modifications, as well as market effects, in their estimates.   Given the diversity of dredging equipment, the standards are indicative and may require adjustments for the unique characteristics of specific dredgers.   Apart from (D+i) and (M+R) there are other operational costs of the equipment such as (but not limited to): •           loading, unloading & transport of spare parts & consumables •           assembly & disassembly •           personnel related costs •           fuel & lubricants •           insurance & damages •           auxiliary equipment •           wear & tear caused by soils dredged •           on-board supervision •           provision for overheads •           logistical costs •           project specific modifications   The above items should be taken into account when determining overall costs & drafting contracts for the charter of equipment. Some of these costs, such as the wear and tear on dredging components from the dredged material, can only be obtained from specialist sources such as consultants & dredging contractors.
