Life is full of surprises. After dedicating 12 years of my career journey to the finance area within the ORLEN Group, never did I imagine that I would one day have the privilege of leading this remarkable company. While my role comes with a specific time horizon, here I am taking over at the helm. Returning to ORLEN after several years, I bring with me new goals and a wealth of experience that, backed by a deep understanding of both the Group and the entire energy industry, will undoubtedly help me recognise the challenges facing the organisation.
ORLEN has evolved. I have witnessed with great interest this transformation and its dynamics over the years. When I first joined in 2008, ORLEN was primarily an oil refiner with a fuel network in Poland, Germany, Lithuania and the Czech Republic. Fast forward to today, ORLEN has grown into a major energy group, operating in the fuel, gas and electricity markets, boasting a retail network of nearly 3.5 thousand stations across Central Europe, a RES capacity of almost 1 GW, and ambitious investment projects in the works.
This progress showcases the immense business potential of ORLEN, while giving rise to new challenges that demand our attention to be effectively addressed. One such challenge is the accelerating energy transition process — an irreversible shift that also presents a huge business opportunity and a chance for civilisational breakthrough.
The new ORLEN Group has expanded through mergers of companies from various energy sectors, bringing together a talent pool of over 65 thousand employees. Achieving full integration is crucial to leveraging the full potential of this collective expertise and creating optimal conditions to pursue strategic development. This integration is one of my key objectives, alongside a thorough analysis of the Group’s past activities and planned projects. Such analysis will guide us in identifying the most promising endeavours and making responsible decisions for their future.
In my role at the ORLEN Group, the focus is on charting the best course to increase its overall value. While I anticipate challenges and hurdles along the way, I firmly believe in ORLEN’s need for growth, forward movement, and responsible contribution to the economies of its operating markets. I may not have all the answers yet, but I am fortunate to have the support of dedicated professionals – the greatest asset of any company – who share a similar vision for the development of ORLEN. As Henry Ford once said, “Joining forces is the beginning, staying together is progress, working together is success”. I wholeheartedly believe in the power of collaboration.
