September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and it’s important to talk about this difficult topic with our kids, even though it can be challenging. I’d like to share this touching short film, Are You Okay?, that illustrates how our actions can deeply affect the mental health of those around us, both positively and negatively. Watching this together can be a great way to start a conversation with your child or students about bullying, suicidal thoughts, warning signs, and the value of having a trusted adult or friend to turn to. My wish...............That everyone recognises mental health as an illness and something that is real that needs treatment. My wish..............To never ever hear the terms: * Man up * Pull yourself together * What have got to be unhappy about * You should realise how lucky you are My wish............People ask people how they are. And really mean it. My wish............People just 'be kind'. I suffer with anxiety which is different to depression and I use exercise, the outdoors, talks with my partner, time with my kids, meditation when I feel stressed or anxious. Which all help me. For some people. Depression is real. It is a deep dark hole which is so hard for people to get out from. It is an illness. But with support and help, people can get improve their mental health and get better. But they need to feel comfortable asking for that help and feel able to talk about it. This is an amazing thought provoking, heart breaking film. Its an eye opener to the biggest killer of middle aged men and sadly, rising cases in teenagers and young men. Please ask people how they are. Please help those in need. And for those that need help. Please talk and please get help. 10 years missing him and a convenient opportunity to share reflexions on mental health, particularly re. depression and suicide. Once again, let's pay attention to details: Robin, Anthony Bourdain -among others- were tremendously successful, used to smile at everyone, were shinning stars in different areas and generous givers of wisdom. But... the high-functioning depression is quite difficult to be noticed in our daily life. It's not as simple as taking this test or appealing to that psychometric instrument. However, we can observe certain signs... just to be alert with ourselves or a beloved one.
