Happy World Environment Day! 🌍🌳 1. In the first photo is Chin Wen, a budding conservationist and former Roots & Shoots volunteer. She envisions a future where environmental conservation becomes second nature to everyone. “For that to happen, it’s important that we have environmental education in schools to teach youth to care for our planet,” shared Chin Wen. Supported by Yayasan Hasanah, @rootsandshootsmy started in 2019 with only 36 youth volunteers and a handful of NGO partners. Now, it has expanded to provide 317 youths with a platform to volunteer with 51 NGOs of their choice. 🌳✨ 2. In the second photo is Talib Mat Razi, who patrols the Royal Belum Rainforest as part of @rimau_ngo ‘s long-term effort to revive the Malayan tiger population. Supported by Yayasan Hasanah and @mof_malaysia RIMAU employs indigenous communities from the Royal Belum area in Perak as forest patrollers to protect Malayan tigers and other species in the Central Forest Spine, reducing the number of poacher snares found in Royal Belum forest by 90% — igniting the possibility of a recovering number of tigers in the wild. This also provides sustainable employment for the indigenous community there, promoting a better future for the environment and the people who call the region home. 🐯🐅✨ Let’s come together to protect our planet towards a greener future. Every small action counts! Watch the full stories on YouTube. 😃 #YayasanHasanah #AdvancingMalaysia #TheHasanahReport #WorldEnvironmentDay2024 #HarapanTanpaSempadan #SemarakPotensiKita

Let us support forest protection and biodiversity in Davao Oriental and the whole forest areas of the country
Some of the forest shots in Davao Oriental captured by the dedicated Tonggo nang Kagul’langan (Forest Guards) during their foot patrolling efforts. These individuals are actively engaged in safeguarding the natural environment. The initiative is part of Mindanao Forest for People and Sustainable Livelihood, which initiated its pilot interventions in Davao Oriental through collaboration with indigenous communities in the province. The deployment and capacity-building of indigenous forest guards under the tribal council have been made possible with the support of Kennemer Eco Solutions. Since June 2023, these forest guards have been diligently patrolling the forest areas within their respective ancestral domains. Their primary objectives include monitoring and surveillance of activities in these areas, documenting the rich biodiversity of flora and fauna, and conducting conservation education programs for the residents living within or near the patrol routes. We invite you to support and join us in this important endeavor! ESG Off Grid - Cambodia As a lawyer, living at my laptop wasn’t “doing it for me”. I realized I need to connect with the lives of others - of farmers, of fishermen - to understand, very tangibly, why companies adopting ESG is crucial for our global sustainable future. Join me while I visit #cambodia sharing news & insights. I visited #FreeTheBears (FTB) at Phnom Tamao Wildlife Refuge, spending a day with their rangers learning about FTB’s work rehabilitating and re-introducing to the forest rescued sunbears and moon bears. FTB have refuges in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam - rescuing over 320 bears to date. The bears are rescued from poacher’s snares, trafficking or as exotic pets (now all illegal in Cambodia). Exotic pets are a status symbol - though through education & social media attitudes are shifting. Fun Facts: - The bears are big fans of marmelade - Sun bears build nests in trees! - Sun and moon bears are loosing their habitats to deforestation and farming. #ESG #sustainability #FreeTheBears

💙 We gathered nearly 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐓𝐎𝐍 of trash during the International Coastal Cleanup Day last month! There were a total of 91 participants from the coastal puroks of Barangay Bulata, Cauayan– the communities near Danjugan Island. 🐚 It was a coming together of people from different walks of life: from barangay officials, to people’s organizations and youth scholars striving to make a difference (while also having fun!) 👨👨👦👦🌍🙌 The participants also played games related to trash and segregation, such as “Bottle Basketball”, where the same mechanics of regular basketball apply, but using plastic bottles instead. 🥤🏀 The purpose of this activity is to make alternative buoys to be used as markers for the Danjugan Island Marine Reserve and Sanctuaries’ (DIMRS) Special Marine Areas (SMA). 🌊 Do you also want to spearhead activities and innovations to lessen trash in the ocean or anything related to climate? ☀️ If you’re from Cauayan, Sipalay, and Hinoba-an, apply now to the ACE Challenge 2023 so your ideas can be funded! Visit https://lnkd.in/gFq34kvv This is under Project ACE (Actions for Communities and Environment), a partnership of Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation Inc. Celebrating International Forest Day! Forests are essential not only for our planet's health but also for the well-being of local communities. On this #forestday, we explore the concept of community-led governance and its important role in ensuring the sustainability of our forests and the prosperity of those who rely on them. Community-led governance means empowering local communities to have a say in the management of their landscapes through strong governance structures. At Planet Indonesia, we are committed to supporting communities in establishing Conservation Cooperatives (CCs), which enable them to efficiently manage their resources and enhance human well-being. But it's more than just managing forests; it's about governance. We believe that transparent, participatory, and adaptive governance institutions are essential for long-term success in conservation and community development. Stay tuned for our next post as we continue to explore this important topic. #ForestInternationalDay #forestday

The stirring tale of the Chiawa Game Management Area in Zambia is a narrative that resonates deeply with my own beliefs in conservation. This serene enclave along the Zambezi River, once marred by overhunting and deforestation, now stands as a testament to the power of community-led environmental stewardship. For me, conservation is a calling that echoes the very beat of my heart. Chiawa's story is an almost perfect example of how the spirit of its people, whose lives are interwoven with the land they call home, have allowed wildlife to thrive once again - fueled by respect for their rich ecosystem and sustainable practices like eco-tourism. The key to Chiawa's success, and what I believe should be a global initiative, is the empowerment of local communities. It is they who have the deepest connection to the land and the most to gain from its protection. By aligning conservation efforts with community well-being, we can ensure a future where both nature and people benefit. The narrative of Chiawa teaches us vital lessons in gentle empowerment, the importance of environmental education, and the shared benefits of conserving our natural world. It is a clear message that when we take care of nature, nature takes care of us. As we each seek to make a difference in our corner of the world, let us remember the story of Chiawa. It is imperative to involve local communities in conservation efforts, educate them on the importance of environmental care, and ensure that the benefits of these efforts are felt by all. In fact, it is the only way. #CommunityConservation #ChiawaTransformation #SustainableLiving #NatureHeals

🌿 🌳 🌲 A wonderfully creative, nature-focused holiday in Kenya! 🇰🇪 Who would have thought holidays could be a catalyst for change, a policy lever to pull? Imagine having a day solely dedicated to taking action for the environment, right here in Tanzania! Some might argue that millions of saplings could go to waste, but what if they don't? What if those who take a day off to plant trees return regularly to nurture them? What if they develop a genuine bond with the trees, finding joy in witnessing their growth? 🌳 By planting these trees and dedicating a special day, we not only take action but also raise awareness about deforestation. People tend to care about things they understand. When they realize the impact of deforestation and the importance of trees, they become advocates for change. This initiative could cultivate a generation intrinsically connected to nature, a profound climate and nature policy outcome 😊. Leaders and environmental enthusiasts in Tanzania, what about adopting this idea for our nation? #TBT Indigenous Knowledge, Customary Use of Natural Resources and Sustainable Biodiversity Management: Case Study of Hmong and Karen Communities in Thailand In northern Thailand 🇹🇭, there are a number of tribal and ethnic groups residing in highland areas. These ethnic groups include the Karen, Hmong, Lisu, Lahu, Akha, Mien, Lu’a, and others. The total population of “hill tribes” is around 1.2 million. 🌱 These peoples have tradition, culture, language, belief, and ways of life that are distinguished from those of the lowland people. They have vast bodies of knowledge and local wisdom about living in their forest environment, such as rotational swidden agriculture, managing sacred forests, taboo forests, and religious-use forests. Many of their customs are relevant and appropriate to natural resources and environmental management. They practice traditional regulations and conventions for controlling, conserving and using resources in a sustainable manner. ❗ However, these governing rules are not known and comprehended by the authorities and the public. Outsiders often have an image of highlanders based on unfair stereotypes propagated by the mass media, which have negative impacts on hill peoples. Natural resource management by highlanders, likewise, is also misrepresented. 🔎 This project aimed at collecting and analysing data and information to be used in efforts to educate the public and to campaign for government policy changes concerning their approach in dealing with the #IndigenousPeoples who live in and with the forest. Nothing can replace the mother trees being cut down in Bali. But let us give you a little bit of hope... In the next two weeks, we have scheduled to plant three forests, totaling 1,600 native trees. We are hopeful that within our lifetime, we will see these forests grow their own mother trees. And we are starting with this public school! We are planting Miyawaki forest with the students of SMP Negeri13. We hope this small action can ignite a spark in their hearts to connect with mother nature. Making it so that when they are older, they will protect the new mother trees that they helped plant. #naturebasedsolutions #climateaction #sustainability #reforestation
