This is me....... 12 years ago. It was an interesting time in my career and the first time I realized I had more to offer the learning community than 'only' representing a product. I was becoming ideological (and I do remember who I was talking to when unbeknown to me this picture was taken). The world was still reeling from the financial crises; youth unemployment in some regions was 50%+, and yet in Europe it was estimated that there were 1 million tech jobs that couldn't be filled because people didn't have the right competences to fill the jobs. I wanted to have an impact on this from what I had learnt in the first 12 years of my career. I became a self employed consultant and whilst I had success in rolling out Pan-European programs (with some amazing partners), speaking at events to advocate the importance of Women and Girls joining the technology sector, consulting for one of the best computer science faculties in the world at Carnegie Mellon University as part of a World Bank funded program and even being involved at the highest level during European Standardization of the European e-Competence Framework, I felt like I was failing.. I wasn't a big-tech vendor. I didn't have a bottomless pocket of money to initiate huge programs to create wide-scale impact, and I didn't want to compromise myself in accepting 'gig's' that had an ulterior motive to the pure science of up-skilling people. Call me naive. I pivoted, and joined the edtech publishing business. I figured that if I couldn't change the system, I would work for an organization which had a portfolio of really credible frameworks and products which did move the dial and create value for people and businesses. Now 12 years later, we're back in a situation of a huge up-skilling task on our hands and its moving faster than anything we've ever seen before. The same "educational" get rich quick schemes are thriving, consumers are confused and organizations need help to understand how they can keep their business relevant. Don't read this as a me fear-mongering (because I'm not), it is THE BIGGEST opportunity we've ever had as a society! You just need help - and I joined AI Academy not on a whim, but because they/we do something really special. (and yeah, it took half a year of discussions over bowls of pasta and cups of coffee with Gianluca Mauro before we decided our motives were aligned and that our products fit the motive). I'm going to be talking about my journey, AI Upskilling and the emphasis on change, training methodologies and why some work better than others, certifications and their relevance with Generative AI, and experiential learning which lead to outcome based training TODAY AT 6PM (CET) with Helin Yontar. "𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒈𝒊𝒇𝒕; 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒍; 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒊𝒄𝒆." — 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒕 🛼 Till this day I remember my CEO at a former workplace — a seasoned leader in his late 50s/early 60s — sharing about how his grandkids were teaching him to rollerblade.  He explained that it was his “one new thing to learn” that year, since he had set himself a personal goal of learning at least one new thing every year.  🎮 Inspired by his dedication to lifelong learning, I embarked on my own journey.  At the grand “old” age of 30-something, I decided to push my own boundaries.  I started piano lessons and surprised myself by passing the Grade 5 theory exams.  I also started playing an MMORPG casually, and again I surpassed my own expectations by getting good enough to complete higher difficulty content known as "raids." 👩💻🧑💻The Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) is similarly committed to lifelong learning.  Staying true to our core value of #Adaptability, I’m happy to announce we’ve recently launched the Data and Digital Literacy Roadmaps and Curricula, to help our colleagues future-proof their careers.  In support of this effort, we’ve also announced an “e-learning hour”.  Starting this month, we're providing our employees with a protected hour every fortnight — a dedicated time to prioritize learning and personal development.  🤖 As for myself, this year I’ve set my sights on learning more about #artificialintelligence and #SocialMediaMarketing.  I’ve already completed the Microsoft-credentialed "Career Essentials in AI", and I’m hoping to complete at least 2 more programmes this year.   🌱 Join me in adopting a #GrowthMindset and in embracing a future where growth knows no limits.  Check out our vacancies if you’re interested in pursuing a career with us: https://lnkd.in/g25vYKeX.
