YMCA staff had a great time meeting the community, providing information on programs and services, and of course, giving away some goodies (popcorn and bananas). We are so glad to be a part of the Frederick County community. Thanks to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office and the Frederick Police Department for putting on such a great National Night Out event!

The Police Foundation (UK) Director Rick Muir believes that the potential for citizen volunteering in police and public safety has been neglected for too long, and points to the success of volunteering approaches in a number of other countries including the US and Japan as an indication that placing citizen participation as central to policy discussions could help to solve some of the big challenges UK policing faces. ❝The 20th century saw a marginalisation of public safety volunteering. This was due to a mixture of the decline of traditional community bonds, the rise in crime and the growing complexity of police work, much of which can only be done by specialists.❞ ❝Deploying volunteers in community facing roles can help policing become more proactive and preventative, and there is plenty of evidence that people in volunteering roles tend to come from a more diverse range of backgrounds than police officers.❞ ❝I am convinced that activating citizen participation is a big part of the answer to a number of the big challenges we face. The public want to help. Let’s help them to do so.❞ https://lnkd.in/etp7yGb2 #lawenforcement #policing #police #volunteering #publicsafety

It's #NationalVolunteerMonth 🤝🏼 For many nonprofits, volunteers are the heartbeat that keeps your mission alive. And while your volunteers may all support your specific mission, their reason for choosing you and remaining loyal deeply vary. Have you ever wondered how best to bring their unique stories to your audience? In January, we taught a session with our friends at Civic Champs about the process of collecting, organizing and sharing volunteer stories on social channels.
