This was the first event we held almost 19 years ago after got sponsorship from Renesas to promote their new brand after merge of Mitsubishi and Hitachi. That time, ATMEL dominates the market, with 89C51 and starting emerge of AVR series. More than 95% who develop MCU based products, buying OFFLINE. Mouser, Digikey, etc. only for certain big players who have significant capital. No Aliexpress or Ebay with free shipping from China to be an alternative. And the local stockiest, certainly, would only stock ATMEL. After 2 hard years, we sale total around 3000 pcs, mainly for university students and small developers. That time did not aware that this kind of sharing, "moving to another MCU" is a crucial skills to be a real embedded engineer. Features, cost reductions, shortages, job change or whatever the reasons, will create conditions which need of migrations. No better MCUs than which can feed our families.

Should Lattice Semiconductor buy Altera? With no product portfolio overlap, both companies can strengthen each other. Intel needs a cash injection, selling Altera would be a great way to do that quickly. For Lattice, this would leap frog them into the next tier. Combined revenue would be ~$2.2B, still smaller than AMD's Xilinx hence SEC should not have an issue with it. Before anyone says a smaller company buying a larger one, remember Avago's acquisition of Broadcom? This marriage would be great for the employees, customers, industry, and both companies.

Although it is still not as good as TSMC's N4P process with a yield rate of 70%, it is still better than its own yield rate of only 25% more than a year ago.
