Navigating the job hunt over these past two months has revealed a significant challenge: finding entry-level positions that don’t demand years of experience. It’s understandable that companies seek candidates with a certain level of knowledge and skills, even for entry-level roles. However, the digital application process seems to have led to many qualified candidates being overlooked simply because they don’t possess every single listed requirement. To recruiters: rejecting candidates for entry-level positions based on one or two missing qualifications might mean missing out on excellent prospects. An applicant with most of the required skills and a strong willingness to learn can often be the perfect fit. Let’s not overlook potential by focusing too narrowly on specific criteria. There are a lot of roles (mini careers, if you will) that you may have for several years, over several companies, that ultimately don't hold long term career aspects. Sourcing used to be one of them. Sourcing is changing. It used to be a role where you could just plunk down any new grad and expect them to hack away until they either made hires or ran away. Sourcing is, after all, still a numbers game. BUT the candidate/hiring market is changing. Application systems are flooded. Job requirements are niche and often need to pivot with market demand. Candidates are rightly demanding high touch, high transparency processes. The AI needs to be vetted/managed. Plugging holes is no longer a viable hiring model - we need to engage candidates and keep them engaged around our employer brands in the longer term. The role of the Sourcer is becoming substantially more complex. It's a very welcome evolution. #sourcing #sourcers #recruiting

I take great care in showcasing each role, narrating the company’s unique story, and ensuring the advert formatting is user-friendly across various devices.✍🏻 A recent Software Engineer role generated a remarkable 296 applications in just two weeks. As I embarked on the process of sifting through this tsunami of talent and creating a shortlist, it became evident how this multiplied across numerous active vacancies can result in thousands of candidates eagerly seeking updates and feedback from one person, a potential CV avalanche! ⛷️ Often likened to a funnel, the talent acquisition and hiring process involves a continuous cycle of candidates entering at the top and successful ones emerging at the bottom. It’s a fascinating process that highlights the importance of effective candidate communication and strategic filtering. 📣 As a TA team we utilise the advanced capabilities of ATS features and cutting-edge AI technologies to enhance the overall candidate experience, ensuring a successful hire. While 295 applicants may not go on to secure the position, their engagement and informed interaction contribute to a robust talent pool for future opportunities🥈

We’re currently witnessing a global transformation in hiring methodology: more and more companies are switching to a skills-first hiring process. This approach puts greater emphasis on the value of the CV/resume’s terminology, along with potential transferable skills, both technical and soft; skills-first hiring doesn’t fixate on the academic merit of a job applicant, such as having a bachelor’s degree. We already know the benefits of this approach to hiring, such as increasing the female talent pool, diversifying generation demographics, and promoting occupational longevity.
