National Down Syndrome Awareness Month is an intentional time to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome and leverage your spheres of influence to spread awareness. Shauna Amick, M.Ed., our Director of Direct Response and Radio Marketing, is doing just that! Her daughter Sarah has Down syndrome and recently Shauna shared helpful insights on how to include individuals with Down syndrome in our communities. 🌟 Be a Voice: Share messages about National Down Syndrome Awareness Month on your social media. Ensure that individuals with Down syndrome are included in your churches, clubs, and social groups. 🤝 Be a Friend: Reach out to children and adults with Down syndrome in your neighborhood, at the store, or in your church. 🌼 Be an Example: As the seasons change, be intentional about advocating for the full inclusion of all individuals. Consider volunteering as a buddy with a local school or organization. These simple actions can uplift those with Down syndrome and their families, making a positive impact not just in October, but throughout the entire year. Read more from Shauna below! #DownSyndromeAwarenessMonth #DownSyndrome #Awareness #Inclusion
As we round out National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, I'm delighted that The Acorn has included Sarah's story in their online and print publications. Change is in the air. I can feel it! https://lnkd.in/gdTVR4ZN joniandfriends.org

Endometriosis has been around for a very long time. I was diagnosed 30 years ago, underwent several laparoscopic surgeries to conceive my first child, took many gut damaging meds (that I’m paying for today), taken shots to put my body into a false menopause in my 30’s, had an ovary removed to conceive my 2nd child after 8 years of unsuccessfully trying, and finally 6 months ago decided I couldn’t suffer anymore and had a full hysterectomy including removing the other ovary. Now I have a whole other set of issues, and I’m not completely cured from the endometriosis. I will say, however, I was blessed with a doctor who listened and saw me through both successful pregnancies. My girls are 9 years apart. I hear stories all the time about doctors who don’t listen and women who miss out on becoming mothers because of it. As a mom of two daughters, I fear they will not find the listening doctors because I fully believe this is hereditary because I have a long family line of women who have or are suffering from endometriosis. If you are a doctor, I beg you to listen to your female patience when they are sharing their symptoms. There’s a whole list of symptoms, but leave no stone unturned. If you are woman suffering, please insist that your doctor listens and if they don’t, find another one that will. #endowarrior #endometriosis #fighter #youarenotalone
