It's #ThrivingThursday at Cabana, and since August is wellness month, we're excited to share more top self-care tips and insights. Self-care is one of the best ways to achieve wellness, and you can do it for yourself every day. Let’s get into it. 'Self-care' and 'self-indulgence' often get mixed up. However, they are both valuable tools in maintaining our mental health. Our episode “Cancel self-care Sunday” on You’re Always Fine outlines the key differences. -Self-Care: Nurturing Mind, Body, and Soul [the long-term wellness play] -Self-care encompasses actions that foster emotional and mental well-being. It's an enduring investment in yourself. -Self-Indulgence: Fleeting Gratification [quick wellness hack] -Self-indulgence often involves activities that offer immediate pleasure. While enjoyable, it may not always contribute to long-term wellness. Deciding Between Self-Care and Self-Indulgence Knowing when to practice self-care versus self-indulgence is crucial for maintaining harmony: Opt for Self-Care When: -You're feeling overwhelmed and need coping mechanisms. -You aim to boost resilience and enhance well-being. -You seek to make lasting changes in your life. Choose Self-Indulgence When: -You need a break from your routine and need a desired treat. -You're celebrating accomplishments and wish to reward yourself. -You understand it’s an indulgence, not a habit. Striking a Balance The key is finding an equilibrium between self-care and self-indulgence. Integrating self-care into your routine is essential, but occasional self-indulgence can rejuvenate you. Recognizing the differences and knowing when each can improve your well-being leads to a more satisfying life. Ready to dive deeper into the differences between self-care and self-indulgence? Audacity + Vision Coach | I help women who lead step into their next season with clarity, alignment, & audacity✨
Does your vision center wellness? You might be burnt out because you didn’t imagine it any other way. If you want a balanced life, you've got to have a balanced vision. I'm a Vision and Audacity Coach, and about 90% of the time when I ask women in our first session to share their vision with me, they start by sharing their mission and their professional goals. Great. Love it. But… what else? This is where folks start to struggle (and I let them sit in the tension a bit….). Then, after some prompting, people start to share more about what they desire for other areas of their life. They begin to light up as they talk about their love for dancing and nature and taking it slow and enjoying simple pleasures. Part of the reason our mental health isn’t where we want it to be is because we don't have a holistic vision for ourselves that centers wellness. Even when we put pictures of yoga and healthy food on our vision board, self-care becomes an afterthought. It’s not on our calendars It’s not on our to-do lists. It’s not at the forefront of our minds. It's something that we say we’ll get to after we accomplish x, y, z… or until our mental health suffers and we burn out. Again. Prioritizing our mental health and self care is a LIFESTYLE. And in order to live it, we need to envision it. If you’re a little stuck, below are a few prompts help you start imagining your audacious vision for wellness and self-care: 🌎 What would you do if you didn't have to save the world? 🥰 What does a cared for [your name here] look like? 🙌🏾 What does a free [your name here] look like? 💥 What sparks joy for you, and what does it look like to make it a priority? I’m excited to announce that I’ll be leading a live and recorded Audacity Salon to dive deeper into this topic at the first-ever Self-Care Sundays Series on May 26th! Join me in an open dialogue among moms and women about our audacious vision for care and wellness, and what we need from our community to make it a reality. All are welcome to participate and listen. In June, we'll have a similar conversation centering fathers and men led by Steven from With Love Skincare. Then, in August, we're all about the youth! Learn more and register: https://lnkd.in/gCbN-4Dx) And we can start to convo now -- How do you prioritize self-care and wellness? What do you struggle with? Share in the comments. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealth #selfcare #wellness #audacity

🔥Do you put your wellness practices on hold when you are facing a big change (challenge) in your life? This could be a relationships break-up, a house move, a change in career, a redundancy, an illness in the family (other than your own), exams or a very busy time in your own business or life... and so forth! Up until a couple years ago I was pretty consistent with my wellness routines. A routine doesn't neccessarily mean I did they same thing day-in, day-out - but I was consistent with how I ate, exercised and approached my self-care. I lived and breathed well-being through thick and thin. Then I let one area slide and if you've ever stopped doing something that was good for you, perhaps you can recall whether your reasons soon became excuses? Are you honest with yourself? I'm passionate about this question: When do your reasons become your excuses? What do I mean by this? When something stopped you in your tracks, or a change in an area of your life had you feeling 'discombobulated' (I love this word) maybe you had to sacrifice an element of your routine or change them altogether and reprioritise your time so something else more important could be completed or handled. I say more important. We know wellness and our well-being is important so in this case, it's more about what was more important for you at the time given the fact that only you can make that decision. So, in this case you had a reason for not doing something, Yet, over time the reason slowly became an excuse and you continued to convince yourself that you still didn't have the time. It's often easy to reflect and look back to see when your reason became an excuse; where you decided to let yourself off the hook because a past situation was still governing how you think, feel and behave in your current reality. I'm all for change and shaking things up a bit, if only to keep us from getting toooo comfy. Not that there is anything wrong with being comfy as long as staying in our comfort zone isn't the excuse, when deep down you yearn to create change or add that sparkle back into your life. I certainly do not advocate fixing something that isn't broken. We don't all have to strive to be a best version of ourselves just because social media talk about it endlessly! :) It's more about being honest with yourself and deciding if who you are today is right for you. Not someone else. Forget about everyone else unless you want their opinion. You own your well-being state so declare it as a state of independance and decide how high to raise your flag. #selfcare #change #wellbeing #wellness #mentalhealth

3 Tips for New “Cold Plungers” Cold plunging, or cold water immersion, has gained popularity for its numerous health benefits. Whether you're looking to enhance your mental resilience, reduce inflammation, or boost your energy levels, cold plunging can be a valuable addition to your wellness routine. Here are three essential tips for those new to the practice: 1. Don’t Try to Be a Hero Cold plunging is not about setting records or competing with others. The primary goal is to reap the personal benefits it offers. When starting, avoid pushing yourself too hard or comparing your progress to others. Focus on your own experience and listen to your body. The benefits of cold plunging, such as improved circulation, reduced muscle soreness, and enhanced mood, come from consistent and mindful practice, not from extreme or competitive behavior. 2. Experiment with Temperatures and Durations Everyone's body responds differently to cold exposure. It's important to experiment with various temperature and duration combinations to find what works best for you. For instance, staying in a cold plunge for 10-15 minutes at a warmer temperature provides a different experience compared to a quick 3-minute plunge at a colder temperature. Pay attention to how you feel during and after each session. Adjust the water temperature and the duration of your plunges based on your comfort level and the effects on your body. 3. Stay Consistent Consistency is key to forming a habit and reaping the long-term benefits of cold plunging. Aim to make it a part of your daily routine, ideally first thing in the morning. Sticking to a regular schedule, regardless of how you feel, helps build mental resilience and ensures that you maximize the benefits. Over time, you'll notice improvements in your physical and mental well-being, making the cold plunge an integral part of your wellness journey. By following these tips, you'll set yourself up for success and enjoy the full range of benefits that cold plunging has to offer. Embrace the cold, stay consistent, and make this powerful practice a regular part of your life. Happy plunging!

'Ooh, It’s Wellbeing Time! I’ve Got 30 Minutes, Let’s Fix It.' ⏰✨ Someone recently told me that wellbeing takes commitment. I beg to differ. 🤔 Health, to me, is an instinct. We’re animals; just like any animal, we naturally follow what feels good. It’s not about rigid schedules, fitting into boxes, tracking—it’s about listening to what our body needs, right now. The challenge of modern life is learning to be impulsive about our health. If today calls for rest, rest. If now is the time to play, drop the work and play. OK, we can’t always drop work. But, we’ve become so tuned to compartmentalising our health into neat little boxes—“I’ll find time for myself later.” (I'm no stranger to this.) Wellness has started to feel like fast food: something we squeeze into our packed schedules, hoping for a quick fix. Animals don’t do that—they act on instinct, responding to their body’s needs as they arise. Wellness used to be called Zen. Then, we added movement and called it Yoga. But at its core, it’s about being—about aligning what we feel with what we do, moment by moment. When we act from our sense of joy and intrinsic motivation, we don’t just go through the motions; we genuinely feel the benefits—and that’s what keeps us coming back for more. For brands, this is a huge opportunity. The best brands know that wellbeing isn’t a sacrifice—it’s a joy. Once you understand how your consumers view their health mission, and how they approach it in their daily lives, you can help them celebrate what joy looks like to them, on their own terms. This creates a much healthier cycle—one based on authenticity and intrinsic motivation, not just the latest trend. #nike is brilliantly returning to who it is and what it wants to inspire: instinct 🔥 #virginactive superbly getting back to basics and cutting through the noise ⚙️ #calm is smashing it with nurturing nudges and soft suggestions 🌱 I believe true wellbeing comes from remembering that it’s already within us—it's instinctive and built-in. Go on, don’t be shy—what do you think? 💭 (Here’s me in a wellbeing action pose with my being-reminder to add texture to the zen 🐕🌿) #wellbeing #health #instinct

⚠️ 3 Toxic Wellness Practices To Avoid Everything we do, think, feel, and believe has a direct impact our well-being, and it's up to us to develop healthy, sustainable habits. Ready to enhance your wellness journey? Get started by steering clear of these three destructive habits: 1. Extreme Positivity Choosing to see the glass half full in the face of hardships can do wonders for our well-being, but excessive positivity can have dangerous consequences on our health. When we pressure ourselves to maintain a positive mindset despite how grueling a circumstance may be, we rob ourselves of the ability to process and, ultimately, conquer negative emotions like anger, sadness, fear, and disappointment. ➣ Fix: You're a human with complex emotions. Don't throw the negative ones under the rug. Feel them and work through them. That's where real, lasting, and beneficial positivity grows! 2. Overambition Having ambition is essential to achieving success and finding purpose, but unhealthy levels of it can have catastrophic effects on not only ourselves, but our relationships. Ambition is the strong desire to achieve something, while overambition is the strong desire to achieve something grandiose without a clear and realistic execution plan. This can lead to a plethora of negative outcomes including ego inflation, burnout, recklessness, alienation, and extreme disappointment. ➣ Fix: Leave extravagant goals off your checklist. Instead, opt for smaller, more achievable goals and slowly work your way up to the big stuff. Rome wasn't built in a day; your greatness cannot be rushed. 3. Rigid Consistency You've heard it before, and you'll hear it again: consistency is the key to success. While this statement is true, unrealistic ideas about what consistency looks like can kill your motivation entirely. When beginning new habits, practicing efforts daily can help you develop a stable routine; however, "daily" is not always a healthy or realistic standard to stick to long-term. Whether you get sick or the weather gets you down, life will inevitably get in the way at some point, and that is completely okay! ➣ Fix: Mindful consistency is the key to success. Give your mind and body the guilt-free grace and rest it needs. Rethink rigid daily or weekly goals to account for life's natural occurrences. 💬 Quote "Take care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live.” - Jim Rohn [This is an excerpt from our newsletter, Living Better.] Don't miss another newsletter! Helping high achieving women conquer imposter syndrome & confidently step into leadership with ease.
Why the “TikTok made me” wellness trends are slowly killing me. 🥴 It’s funny. Every time I sit down to write a post I am met with *frustration*. Frustration over how ridiculous the “wellness”/coaching space has become. On the whole, people know what they should be doing to level up in life. You’ve been told it so many times before, right? - Sleep 7-8 hours a night. - Eat your veggies.. - Stay hydrated! - Move your body regularly. - Find a work/life balance. But the issue is that so many mindless fakes have infiltrated the wellness space. Fakes who have no educational grounding to be giving advice. Fakes who don't understand neuroscience or neurology. Fakes who can't help but make you compare yourself to other people! Their mission is to plant seeds of doubt by “influencing”. You think you have your sh*t together, & then some TikToker comes along and tells you that you should be levitating when you meditate. Or that this overnight green juice hack solves everything.🧃 Or that confidence is innate, you either have it or you don’t. Sorry about it! That little seed of doubt starts to take roots and you start to question…”am I doing this right?”. Then boom, wellness cowboy numero uno (who is probably no more than 17?!) pounces in with his overnight solution to fix everything. So much of the wellness industry is there to confuse and over-complicate the process. That is where this Unshakeable comes in. I’m here to debunk these lame theories and to reassure you that your wellbeing, life & confidence goals do not need to be all consuming. That you also don't need to sell a kidney to make these changes. And that wellbeing can actually be fun! //Join my newsletter (LINK IN BIO) & join a growing community of high-achieving folks who learn low effort high impact ways to improve their lives every 2 weeks. 💾 Save this so you can come back to it later! ♻️ Share with a friend (or 3) who you think might benefit.
