What do girls want? Here it is: #GirlsWantCyberJustice! In this open letter to the #EU #Parliament members, 11 incredible women (led by Dr Silvia Semenzin) laid out a path for a safer, more #equitable and #inclusive digital world. You can join their movement by sharing this letter and tagging as many EU candidates and political leaders as you can. Here are a few takeaways from the open letter: 1. Survivors with lived experience and civil society (including those on the frontline response like helplines/hotlines/legal advocates) should be central to framing broader EU discussions on creating a #feminist and intersectional #digital strategy to address #technology facilitated #genderbasedviolence and the digital platform economy. 1. Member states tasked with implementing the provisions of the newly passed Directive on Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence should ensure that Article 5 is expanded to cover #AI and synthetic s3xual digital forgeries (aka #deepfake abuse). 2. Create better pathways to ensuring that frontline organizations that are often small and under-resourced are able to successfully bid on funding from the EU to support their work and survivors. 3. There must be a gender-sensitive approach to enforcing the Digital Services Act - ie don't let bad actors walk away without accountability. This includes the entire ecosystem from software developers to platforms and marketplaces. 4. Support research for better understanding the nature and scope of technology facilitated gender-based violence - including #imagebasedsexualviolence, #sextortion, sexual digital forgeries and more. I am beyond in awe of these incredible thought leaders and the entire #girlswantcyberjustice movement. A few months ago, a group of women experts and advocates whom I greatly admire and consider my inspiration met up in Germany at Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) gGmbH to discuss how to push EU institutions to do more regarding cyberviolence against women and girls. Today, the results of that work can finally be shared with the world! We have worked hard on this open letter addressed to the EU MP candidates to advocate for stronger protections and equal opportunities for girls in cyberspace. We now invite you to join our movement #GirlsWantCyberJustice! Your voice matters in ensuring a safer, more inclusive digital world. 📣 Read our open letter and share your experience with us using the hashtag #GirlsWantCyberJustice 💜 🚀 Tag your favorite EU candidates in this post and help us reach out to as many politicians as possible! The internet and other digital technologies can connect communities…but they can also threaten the identity of Indigenous peoples. In the Cabécar nation in Costa Rica, for example, young people influenced by Western culture are becoming disconnected from ancestral wisdom. Women leaders in this matrilineal culture are concerned about the role of the internet in accelerating this disconnection, which threatens the survival of the Cabécar language and the very existence of the Cabécar nation. Our partner Cooperativa Sulá Batsú is helping the Cabécar women make strategic choices to use digital to transmit their community’s identity to the next generation and strengthen the community’s resiliency. 🔗 Discover more: https://lnkd.in/g6xJ5geY —Part of WACC’s #CommunicationForAll Program, in partnership with the Association for Progressive Communications and Bread for the World-Germany #GenderJustice #DigitalJustice #IndigenousRights #Cabécar

WAGGGS are celebrating International Day of the Girl by bringing to a close their 60 Ways in 60 Days campaign that started on International Youth Day. This campaign aims to collect at least 60 examples of meaningful youth participation happening across their Movement where girl guides and girl scouts are taking the lead, making decisions and shaping their own experiences. So, in the spirit of 60 Ways in 60 Days we want young people to be able to take the lead in their International Day of the Girl 2024 celebrations! It's their day, their way! There are many ways young people can shape their activities and events. Guides across our county, the country and the world will be involved in varying activities. Consultation – Gathering ideas from young people about how they wanted to celebrate IDG 2024. Collaboration – Adults and young people deciding together what activities to do. Youth-Led – Young people planning and running IDG 2024 activities, with adult support. Let us know if you were involved in any celebrating? And shout out to tell us why you believe girls and young women have the power to make the world a better place for us all. #IDG #InternationalDayOfTheGirl #60Waysin60days #Empowered

Dear HR peers or business leads driving DEI initiatives, Let's be honest—this job is often challenging. You're juggling multiple roles, there are scarce resources, and sometimes business thinks it's enough for HR or volunteers to handle this "soft stuff". But in the end, real impact and often decisions impacting inclusion in the workplace sit in their influence. For large corporations with mature systems and processes, it might seem simple because it's already there- so then how can you further the impact? For organizations trying to make sense of it all, ensure the initial efforts you start with lead to real impact, not just for branding. Join us in the closing season of Women in Tech®Cyprus, where different experts join efforts, share personal stories and dig deep into Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. I will talk about DEI thru the professional lens- how to assess the DEI blueprint and health of your organization, data to drill & tough questions to ask, what minimum standard to demand for and provide as employer, and share practices in closing the gender gap in tech. See you there and let's close this season with impact! #diversity #inclusion #employeeexperience #DEI #inclusiveleadership

Localisation is more than a strategy for us; it’s a commitment to fostering equitable partnerships with local people. We recognise that local organisations possess invaluable knowledge and insights into their communities—knowledge that is essential for designing contextually relevant programs and fostering long-term resilience. Through strategic partnerships and capacity-building initiatives, we empower local organisations to lead and innovate. This approach not only enhances the impact of our interventions but also strengthens local organisations, promoting ownership and sustainability. As part of our project addressing technology-facilitated gender-based violence in Mexico, we’re collaborating with two incredible local, grassroots organisations - Organización Feminista Lilas - Oaxaca y Asamblea Vecinal Nos Queremos Vivas Neza - Estado de México - involved in the defense of women’s rights in the country. We are working together in two main areas: 📱Co-designing and implementing activities with the community. For example, we co-designed a digital care tool kit for young women. 🚀Strengthening their in-house capacity through a series of workshops facilitated by MAGENTA and Local Subject Matter Experts. #localisation #strengthening #together #collaboration
