Our Chairman and CEO James Reed CBE spoke to Sky News today about the latest Reed.co.uk data. To what extent is your organisation hesitant to recruit, and how is this impacting your workforce? #ImprovingLivesThroughWork #Since1960 #LifeAtReed #Hiring
Spoke to Sky News about the latest Reed.co.uk jobs data earlier… Here are the headlines, in August: Wages rose 4% Applications rose 25% Vacancies fell 28% This follows the ONS data published earlier today which reported that vacancies had declined for an imprecedented 26th period in a row. There is a danger that we may be witnessing a slow motion car crash here in the labour market. The 28% decline in vacancies year on year for August is significant; employer confidence has clearly taken a knock. Ongoing uncertainty around new regulations, potential new taxes and the outlook for the economy has acted as a brake on hiring. Ideology can be kryptonite for enterprise, so I hope this situation is taken as seriously as it deserves to be. And please don’t shoot the messenger! #lovemondays #lifeatreed #improvinglivesthroughwork #PhilCo #since1960 #ONS #jobstats #recruitment

Content warning: suicide. It's World Suicide Prevention Day today! We recently asked The Listening Place’s Founder and CEO, Sarah Anderson CBE for her advice for employers on how to approach the subject of suicide in employees to help prevent someone from taking their life. Key points to consider: - Normalise honest conversations: "how are you really?" - Be curious and ask open questions: if you think someone is suicidal, "you need to ask them". - Common mistakes to avoid: listening to reply rather than to understand. - The impact on the listener: "if the upset stays with you, seek help." - Leadership and company culture: "mental health is as significant as physical health." Find out more from Sarah on how to have meaningful conversations and offer support to suicidal employees: https://bit.ly/3WCaeuC #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #MentalHealth #Wellbeing #Suicide

Chat Automation Ltd's latest episode of Recruiters In Cars Getting Coffee with James Reed CBE, CEO & Chairman at Reed is now live! ...and available to brighten up your Monday morning (or give you something to watch over lunchtime). We get to know the true gentleman behind the business, meeting James during Reed's "Love Mondays" summer campaign takeover at Welcome Break's Membury Services. Great conversation ensues, filled with laughs, as he lends his wisdom and experience on innovation, curiosity, entrepreneurship and gives valuable advice for (recruitment) business owners. During the drive in his beautiful 1999 Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd DB7 (complete with Chelsea Football Club rear-view mirror dice), we talk about James' first job as a grave leveler through to taking over the family business from Sir Alec Reed. James shares amazing stories about the origins of Reed.co.uk, maintaining the spirit and ethos within the Group, the Big Give (a cause close to his and his father's heart), and the surprising task that comes with being a CEO! It was such a delight spending time with James Reed CBE, sharing laughs and learning from his incredible journey. Making UK hiring the fastest globally // Tackling Hiring Fraud // Transforming the UK labour market for everyone
Going into the Parliamentary session in May on “Hiring for the new generation” I genuinely didn’t realise the extent of the problems It was sobering to hear how young people perceive #hiring. 👉”Fundamentally broken” 👉”The selection process is a rejection process” 👉”No feedback so we don’t know what we’re getting wrong” In Parliament in May young people, business, and politicians came together to discuss the challenges facing young people today. As Chair of the Better Hiring Institute (BHI) I am delighted to announce the launch of the resultant guide for business. The free-to-use guide (link in comments) covers a range of changes that could be implemented to make hiring better for our next generation. This isn’t about new tech platforms or bespoke solutions, this is about hardwiring youth-friendly approaches into mainstream hiring. This is something we can all do. A big thank you to our speakers and project partners: Bright Network, Lancaster University Management School, Reed Screening, Cecile Bonnet, and Margaret Heffernan #humanresources #careers

We are delighted to have worked in collaboration with the Better Hiring Institute (BHI) to launch guidance on Reimagining Hiring as we continue to pioneer the future of hiring! Employment screening can unfairly disadvantage young people. The blanket approach used by many screening firms is not flexible enough to take into account individual situations, and at Reed Screening we are striving to change this. With many UK screening companies now owned by global multinationals, and the screening itself conducted overseas, it's important for organisations to have a solid understanding of the UK education system to be able to confirm qualifications, identify hiring fraud, and navigate UK-based institutions and rules.
