Good news, bad news. Bad news first: #Veterans die by suicide at a rate twice as much as the general public. It’s an ongoing crisis that impacts nearly every community, including here in Northeast Florida. Good news: a community-based approach is making a difference. For the 3rd straight year, Veteran suicides in Northeast Florida were once again more than 25% below 2019 numbers. That far outpaces civilians here and throughout the state. A big reason why? The community is recognizing the warning signs and getting vets the help they need. Do your good deed for the day and take 30 minutes to take this free training from The Fire Watch. It could save a life.

Beneath the open sky, where freedom once reigned, veterans now endure the indignity of unmet basic needs. Portable latrines replace proper facilities, a daily reminder of the comforts they’ve been denied. These soldiers, guardians of our nation's dreams, are met with the bare minimum, a stark departure from the respect they've earned. Each visit to these blue boxes is a silent protest against broken promises. The gravel beneath their feet speaks of resilience in adversity, but also of neglect from those they served. This isn't the homecoming they deserve. Dignified living shouldn't be a luxury for those who've paid the cost of liberty.
