Just looked at tickets for an unnamed ballet company’s upcoming performance in September. The cheapest ticket was- $115. This is why people say the performing arts are dying. There has to be some sort of middle ground. I am in the performing arts myself, and there is no way I’d be able to spend 3 figures per person for one evening of entertainment. This isn’t New York City or San Francisco, either. There is no reason arts orgs in normal cities should be pricing their lowest tickets at 3 figures, period. I understand that non-profit organizations need tons of money to function, but they can’t act surprised when they lose more and more new audiences every year. Oof! I don’t claim to have all the answers but I sincerely hope these large performing arts organizations are desperately seeking solutions to this issue and are considering lowering the prices to attend their events. Happy Monday, everyone! After a whirlwind weekend filled with a ballet class for my youngest, first-time roller skating for my eldest, and a soft play party for my middle child, I can't say I'm any more rested than I was on Friday. But I did manage to sneak in the latest episode of the Kardashians and some Wimbledon which I’m taking as a win! Despite the busy weekend, I'm feeling energised and ready to tackle the week ahead. There's so much to look forward to: - Chasing up charitable donations for VCSEs - Completing social value responses for new bids - Reviewing existing responses as part of the re-tender process - Working on the Local Government and Housing SV strategy - Meeting with exciting potential delivery partners - Catching up with colleagues from across the business (I'm talking about you, Katy Cannadine Canadine) - Preparing for my live apprenticeship events on Thursday and Friday! And then there are the annual tests and my half yearly review patiently waiting for me in workday because can you believe I have almost been at Capita Local Public Service for 12 whole months?? Plus, my eldest two are making gifts for their teachers as the school year winds down, and my youngest is eager to make something special for her ballet teacher-which obviously all heavily involves me as the arts director of the crew. It's going to be another busy week, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Here’s to embracing new challenges, making meaningful progress, and finding joy in every moment. I was at my niece's ballet recital this weekend when I overheard a woman say "I'm sick to death of being asked for money by charities - all they do is try to pull on our heartstrings, we can't help everyone..." It's true. You won't come across a charity that isn't asking for money. That's because charities are struggling more than ever. At a time where more and more people rely on them, less people are able to donate. So here we are, shouting from the rooftops, asking you to give what you can. We know everyone's finding it hard right now... that's the reason we have to shout even louder. We have no choice. Imagine what would happen if we didn't ask? This cost of living crisis is also the cost of giving crisis. Millions of people rely on charities, so we can't apologise for trying our best to support those who need us. Here's a reminder that a little goes a long way ✨ You can volunteer and give your time. Donate unwanted clothes or gifts. Like and re-share social posts to help spread the word. Buy a cupcake from the charity stall at the Christmas fair. Pick up an extra tin of soup for the food bank. Drop some pennies into a collection bucket. If you're not in a position to help when someone asks, just know we understand. There's never any expectation. But being met with a smile makes the world of difference ❤️

Silverstone is not just a home race for Lewis Hamilton, it's also a place with special resonance in his mission to build a more diverse and inclusive Formula One. Four years ago, it was during a private test at Silverstone post-Covid, and pre-Austrian Grand Prix, that Lewis challenged us to do more and go further following the murder of George Floyd, by using our platform to advocate against racism and for greater inclusion. The result was the all-black livery of the W11, and catalysed the team's Accelerate 25 programme. Three years ago at Silverstone, the Hamilton Commission published its report on Formula One. Some took this as a hostile act, some resisted it as "Lewis's thing" rather than relevant for the sport, others were open-minded and embraced the mirror it held up to our community - and asked the question, how can we lean into changing that? At the same time, we announced the Ignite partnership between our team and Lewis's fantastic foundation, Mission 44. That work incubated some incredible initiatives that are guided today by Jason Arthur and his team at Mission 44, as they expand their scope and ambitions. That's why I believe this announcement by Formula 1 is so important - because it shows the sport as a whole, and not just individual drivers or teams within it, are prioritising a more representative and inclusive F1 as a source of strength and performance in the future. Lewis may be moving on from Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team at the end of the season, but I hope that when we reflect on our legacy together, this work sits very high up the list of achievements we can be proud of - alongside all those wins and world championships. And special little shout-outs to some of the folk in the background who've kept the wheels turning on this, most notably Jo Livingston, Marc Hynes and Mark Hamlin.

Update on the Fan Dance Race: 24km Up Pen Y Fan in Wales, Carrying 22kg First of all, I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored me. I raised just under £1800 for Mind charity, and your generosity means the world to me. The day started with prime conditions, but the weather soon took a turn for the worse with 21km/h winds and rain! Due to these adverse conditions, the organizers kindly extended the Special Forces cut-off time by a whopping 10 minutes, giving us a total of 4 hours and 10 minutes to complete the challenge. This was by far one of the most testing challenges I have ever undertaken. I want to extend a massive thank you to my training partner, Paul Allun. We helped each other get through this grueling experience. The return leg was particularly tough, with strong winds and rain making the ground slippery and the climb even more challenging. Paul and I stuck together through it all and ended up finishing joint 4th. In true “Ollie” fashion, we finished within the selection time by just 1 minute, completing the race in 4 hours and 9 minutes. The sense of achievement was incredible. All the hard work and training paid off, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with our placement and time. Once again, thank you to everyone who sponsored me and supported this cause.
