The invitations for this year's Dare to Dream Gala are hot off the presses, so it is time to start announcing some of our award winners! Our Business Partner of the Year is Kristen Panice and her marketing company, Cake or Death Marketing Communications. Kristen joined the board of directors in 2022, serving as the Chair of the Marketing Committee and a member of the Training Taskforce, Fundraising, and Personnel Committees. She has led Youth Outlook through dozens of projects and strategic sessions cumulating hundreds of hours of dedication. We regularly talk about how true allies need to be ready to un-learn and to listen. She has listened to our varying points of view, taken all the notes and come back with versions that made it clear people were seen and heard. All of our educational, fundraising, and outreach materials have been and are touched with Kristen's love. Thank you, Kristen, for your years of dedication to our organization, and congratulations on earning this award!

I attended an amazing luncheon today hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Orange County. The topic was "Sharing Your Story: Growing Your Community through Marketing & PR," which I hadn't previously given much consideration. The panelists did a great job of explaining how this concept has been executed by many of my clients over the years. Special thanks to host Carrie Freitas for moderating the discussion, and to the panelists Matthew Wadlinger, Nichole Ramirez, Kedric Francis, and Lesley Churchill for sharing their thoughts. Some key takeaways for me were: - Establish a relationship with a photographer/videographer for events, create a shot list, get names and organization details for individuals in the shots. - Cross-promote as much as possible. - The value of a relationship cannot be underestimated; it's crucial to understanding what is important to someone. - Consider creating a memorable "moment" during your event if there isn't one naturally. - Proactive PR serves two purposes: promoting the organization during good times and addressing potential issues. If you work in philanthropy or in programs, how do these tips resonate with you?

There is nothing more important in this whirlwind that is corporate America than pouring into the next generation -- doing so makes us better as a collective. I truly enjoyed my interview with Nicole Oronzio who showed exemplar professionalism and exuded the nature of a thorough journalist. My favorite quote from this piece is the advice to upcoming #publicrelations professionals to: “Maximize the time you have and the time you do not get back." It's not an original quote, it's scriptural (Eph. 5:16a). Time is an invaluable resource: use it or lose it! Taking risks allows for fewer regrets. In the article, I also stress to students that writing is a highly and useful transferable skill. This is (unfortunately) not something I grasped until later in my career, thanks to people like Deshundra Jefferson, who is a pro and helped me develop this skill. I love my Dear Old State and am so proud of how the institution equips students like Nicole to to become successful in their post-graduate endeavors. 💙 #pennstate #prssa #alumnispotlight You can check out the full article here: https://lnkd.in/e_uCPwJb
