Art sees no disability and welcomes everyone with open arms, but there's still a crucial bridge that must be built to make the creative world truly inclusive. On September 19th at the Zero Project India Conference in Delhi, the session Inclusive Arts explored this challenge. Esteemed speakers like Bose Krishnamachari of the Kochi Biennale Foundation - India, Carolina Artegiani from the Museum of Art and Photography (MAP), and Martin Essl from Zero Project moderated by Meera Shenoy from Youth4Jobs Foundation shared their insights on how to make the arts more accessible and inclusive for persons with disabilities. The session focused on actionable solutions—how public art spaces, galleries, and exhibitions can be designed with accessibility at their core. Discussions centered around empowering artists with disabilities, ensuring they have the platforms and opportunities to thrive in the creative industry. The session extended beyond physical accessibility, highlighting the importance of inclusivity in representation, opportunity, and visibility within the arts. Art was framed as a tool for social change, one that can dismantle stereotypes, foster empathy, and create a society where everyone, regardless of ability, can engage with and contribute to the creative process. By combining international and national perspectives, the session facilitated a dynamic exchange of ideas and potential solutions. It sparked meaningful conversations and received overwhelmingly positive feedback, reflecting the pressing need for these discussions. The session underscored the idea that art isn’t just a medium for expression but a universal language that connects people, regardless of differences. The dialogue initiated here is just the beginning of a journey toward a future where every creative voice is heard, celebrated, and supported. Building that bridge toward true inclusivity is essential to creating a world where art is for everyone.
