Congratulations to the Youth Negotiators Academy and all the land diplomats and negotiators for the amazing work you are doing. I was delighted to be part of the Land Youth Negotiator Program and share some knowledge on the science and background on the importance of Land, LDN and Sustainable Land Management.
Looking forward to meeting you in person at UNCCD COP16!!
Would you want an oil company to influence your future?
With 150+ civil society organizations, Crude Accountability expresses concern over the COP29 presidency to include the state oil company SOCAR on the organizing committee.
We call for transparency from the COP29 host, Azerbaijan, to hold climate talks free from big oil meddling.

💧🗓 500 days have passed since the historic United Nations 2023 Water Conference. While both the progress on big promises and ambition shown at that conference have been slow, we are finally on the brink of a significant milestone: the imminent appointment of a UN Special Water Envoy by the UN Secretary-General.
However, "naming a UN Special Water Envoy is just a first step to the global governance transformation the current (water) crisis demands," highlights our Executive Director Henk Ovink in his latest opinion piece published in The Water Diplomat.

So how does what CDN does help reduce global emissions because buying gear from countries using coal i.e. made in China wind/solar/EVs/heatpumps simply transfers the emissions from Canada to China. We need made in Canada baseload reliable solutions like hydro, CANDU/natural gas combined with new tech like NET Power that delivers 0 emission electricity from natural gas. And we need to export inexpensive cleaner than coal CDN energry like SK uranium, ON CANDU & AB/BC LNG to help the world reduce its emissions. Climate change is a global issue, not a national political opportunity!

What we know!
The Treaty 1-11 gathering was hosted in the beautiful Cold Lake First Nation, Alberta.
The agenda was packed with presentations and updates from our various warriors wanting to educate and create awareness on several aspects of the dismantling of our Treaty Relationship with the Crown.
I wanted to share my views on the 3 pillars of Treaty 1 - 11
1. As long as the sunshines
2. The grass grows and
3. The waters flow
In the not so distant pass, we have experienced extreme heat crisis across the land that has resulted in farmers having to abandon our land due to a water crisis. The experience across the western provinces has uncovered the greatest risk to FN’s.
In Alberta they have limited FN’s access to potable and safe drinking water through licensing & permitting hierarchy, with FN’s last on the list. Or is this a result of Royalty sharing agreements or discriminatory policies?
Saskatchewan is hoarding water and looking into enhancing storage capacity in its 47 artificial reservoirs network. They are now looking at surveying and claiming groundwater aquifers for their control and purposes.
Manitoba & Mb Hydro has destroyed the 11th largest freshwater lake on the planet to construct energy & water storage infrastructure, the Mb Treaty offices are failing Mb FN’s
With all 3 provinces contributing to FN cumulative impact & adverse effects. They will continue moving legislation to further diminish FN’s out of the equation for their own purposes and claiming ownership of “WATER”
Land will be taken away from our FN’s through the Canadian government’s imposition of programs & services that take away treaty rights in exchange for money.
We don’t need another “institution, we have enough of them already pushing their own agendas.
We can and need to do better.
We must work together to change the narrative on the unconstitutional, illegal transfer and application of the 1930 NRTA and a revised and modernized “1969 White Paper”
The Buffalo Treaty gathering may prove to be more educational and informative to many that are in search of their place & purpose!
St Albans Local Plan Update
The draft Regulation 19 (Submission Version) Local Plan is heading to committee on Monday 23rd September, and can be found here:
https://lnkd.in/e3XR-kUE
The Plan, which seeks to replace the last adopted Plan from 1994 (when I was younger than my children are now!!), proposes significant Green Belt release in order to meet its full standard method requirement.
The speeding up of this long-long-overdue Plan is very welcomed and a positive consequence of the 'threat' of an increased standard method as proposed in the recent Government consultation (which would see St Albans requirement jump from 885dpa to 1,544dpa).
Title: Guyana’s President Advocates for Environmental Balance Amid Oil Boom
Background:
Guyana, a South American nation, has seen a surge in its oil reserves, with an estimated value of $150 billion.
The country faces a delicate challenge: balancing economic growth from oil extraction with environmental conservation.
The BBC Interview:
Stephen Sackur, host of BBC HardTalk, raised concerns about the environmental impact of oil production.
He highlighted the potential release of two billion tons of carbon emissions over the next few decades.
President Ali’s Response:
President Ali passionately defended Guyana’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
He pointed out that Guyana boasts a vast, untouched jungle equivalent in size to England and Scotland combined.
This jungle acts as a crucial carbon sink, storing approximately 19.5 gigatons of carbon.
President Ali emphasized that while oil extraction may contribute to emissions, Guyana’s forest preservation deserves recognition.
My Perspective:
As a concerned citizen, I appreciate President Ali’s stance.
He rightly lectures the BBC reporter on the importance of net zero emissions and understanding the carbon footprint.
Guyana’s untouched jungle plays a vital role in absorbing carbon dioxide, mitigating the impact of climate change.
Let’s recognize both economic progress and environmental responsibility.
This dialogue underscores the global struggle to balance development and ecological well-being, urging us all to consider the long-term consequences of our actions . #greenintatives #substainability#guyana #carbonfootprint#zeroomissions
💡 Navigating the stormy waters: How the South Caucasus Water Academics Network (SWAN) is furthering discussions on water diplomacy in the South Caucasus and beyond💡
Water security in the South Caucasus region is under great threat. Third-party involvement in water diplomacy has potential to benefit the region greatly but also carries specific risks.
In this blog article, Farhad Mukhtarov and Douwe van der Meer of the recently established South Caucasus Water Academics Network (SWAN) discuss the network’s upcoming activities and show how it will help address issues related to transboundary water cooperation and beyond.
