Among the wide variety of nonprofit hospitals are safety-net hospitals, health systems that see the highest percentage of low-income and uninsured patients. According to America's Essential Hospitals, which represents 300 safety net hospitals, those members represent 5% of all hospitals but account for a quarter of all charitable or free care. Sometimes in the midst of trying to raise gowns, we forget how truly special it is to do what we do as a community. We have been the catalyst for change in hospitals! We created hospital gowns that allow kids to still be kids at a time when they deserve it most. We appreciate everyone who has contributed, spread the word, and offered words of support. Behind every gown is a child and at any moment it could be one of our own. When we know better, we must do better! 🙌 Your actions make a real difference in real time! Many children are still awaiting sponsors, and together we can help change their hospital stay. On the last day of CTE Awareness Month, I want to thank all those who helped raise awareness about CTE this month. Whether you shared a post, read up on CTE, or donated, your actions are greatly appreciated! This month we explored what CTE is, its symptoms, who is impacted, and actions to help limit the development of CTE in youth, athletes, military service members, and Veterans. Preventing CTE is part of the long game, but there are actions we can take now that will make a difference for young people in sports. Repetitive head impacts children receive playing contact sports can cause CTE and derail their future. At CLFC, we support delaying repetitive head impacts until at least the age 14 to significantly reduce the risk of developing CTE. I also encourage parents and coaches to advocate for this measure across all sports in Canada. It's the second Friday of the month...meaning today, we need YOU!🚨 This Fundraiser Friday, we're striving to fulfill our initial goal from last month to raise $5,500 to stock our ambulance fleet with 28 Slishman Traction Splints. So far, you guys have already raised close to $1,000!!! Designed to overcome the operational difficulties of older traction splints, the STS Gen2 is the fastest splint to apply, reducing on-scene times and maximizing patient comfort. Unlike other traction splints, the STS Gen2 requires no individual poles or complicated mechanisms to assemble. It can be applied in under a minute, making it the go-to solution in emergencies. The traction mechanism is found at the patient's hip, with femur traction applied by extending the pole segments. This creates a pushing force on the ankle or distal strap, rather than pulling distally from the foot as with conventional traction splints. The STS Gen2 is lightweight, weighing only 17 ounces, and its compact design takes up little space. Additionally, the STS Gen2 is one size fits all, eliminating the need to carry multiple sizes. Traction adjustment is easy to accomplish for maximum patient comfort, and the STS is radiolucent, eliminating the need to remove the splint for patient imaging or exam. Overall, Its advanced design and versatile features make it a must-have device for EMS agencies who frequently encounter leg fractures.
