Traditional linear career paths are losing their luster because they no longer sufficiently predict the diverse skills needed to drive high-level innovation. It's clear why the shift towards illustrating career growth in more dynamic, non-linear ways is gaining momentum. Similarly, for managers aiming to adapt to changing organizational needs, mastering the concept of a "skills portfolio" is crucial. This approach doesn't just map out what skills exist within the team but aligns them strategically to meet future challenges and innovation opportunities head-on. 🌟 Here's why adopting a skills portfolio for your team can be a game changer: 🔄 Enhances agility in responding to market changes 🎯 Optimizes talent utilization by aligning core skills with project needs 🛠️ Encourages continuous skill development 🚀 Promotes innovation through diverse skill applications What are your thoughts? Have you implemented similar strategies in your team or organization? #SkillsPortfolio #TalentManagement #Innovation #Leadership #CareerDevelopment #HR

Love this way of framing and celebrating circuitous career paths! "Whereas a career path tends to be a singular pursuit (climb the ladder in one direction and focus on what is straight ahead), a career portfolio is a never-ending source of discovery and fulfillment. It represents your vast and diverse professional journey, including the various twists and turns, whether made by choice or by circumstance. "

Anyone out there thinking about a job change for 2024? Have I got a useful tip for you!! Allow me to introduce you to The Career Transition Center (CTCChicago.org). It's a well-kept secret that has had a profound impact on my career journey. I've turned to CTC 4 times in my career (That's right - I said 4): First, when I graduated from law school and needed guidance to break into the Chicago legal market. Then, as I explored opportunities in the non-profit sector, CTC helped me to give myself permission to leave the law and pursue my passion. When I decided to venture into non-profit consulting, CTC became my trusted ally - guiding me through all the steps of entrepreneurship. Most recently, as I shifted the focus of Kelly Calvanico Creative LLC to diversity, equity, and inclusion, CTCChicago.org was there to support my journey. CTC is now a client of mine -- and I cannot sing their praises loudly enough. I swear I've referred 1,000 people to them over the years. They are truly the best-kept secret in Chicago. The best part? CTC is currently offering a special sale through year-end! If you're out of work, considering a career change, or searching for meaningful employment, I encourage you to explore what CTC has to offer. Visit CTCChicago.org to learn more. Introducing Brian Bracci, our Sales Director! ⚡️ Q: Tell us a little bit about what you do at the Chargers. A: As the Director of Sales, I am part of a team that is responsible for selling season tickets, mini plans, and group outings. Q: How did you get started? A: I attended a career fair down at Petco Park my last semester of college where I met my future manager with the Arizona Diamondbacks. They weren't hiring at the time, but I stayed in touch with him over the summer until they reached out to me about an opening on their Inside Sales team. Drove out to Arizona one week later for an interview and got the role! Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job? A: This is tough so am I going to pick two things. The first is seeing people grow their career with us. We have been fortunate to have some very talented people on this team and it is the best feeling to see them take the next steps in their careers! The second part is being able to interact with our fans at events. I have been here since 2017 and have gotten to know some of them really well. Every year the first game is like a mini reunion where we all get to catch up! Q: Any advice for those trying to get a job in sports? A: Learn how to tell your story. Almost every interview starts with some form of "tell me about yourself." Use this time to showcase the life experience you have that will translate to the role you are interested in! #workinsports #sales

🔅📖🔅📖🔅📖🔅📖🔅📖🔅📖 Transitioning from being a pastor to a recruiter, I've found myself applying the exact tips shared in this article. Three key highlights for me have been 🔑networking 🔑mentorship 🔑training Without my supportive network of friends, who informed me about how my passion for connecting people with opportunities could translate into the world of recruiting, I may never have discovered this career path. Through mentorship from my Senior Talent Acquision friends with 16 years of experience (🧚🏻Mariann M. , Ben Chulaluxsiriboon, Crystal Phillips🧚🏻) along with dedicating time to learning on LinkedIn and expanding my network, I've seen significant growth. Two years ago, I had just 20 connections; now, I've connected with over 2,000 people with various backgrounds across the country. This expanded network not only opened doors for initial interview opportunities but also paved the way for my first job in tech sourcing, eventually leading to a role in recruiting at an agency. Each step has propelled me toward success and fulfillment in my current position at Nexus Talent Connect, where I continue to grow and excel. (And if you're wondering, my passion for pastoralship still permeates everything I do, and I continue to serve in my faith community.) If you're considering a career pivot and want to learn more, read THIS article! Also, feel free to reach out via DM – I'd love to chat further. #careers #mentorship #growthmindset

☀ Can a summer job pave the way for long-term career success? According to Courtney Moed-Melendez, Account Lead at Hot Paper Lantern, it certainly can. She details how her summer job at a supermarket helped prepare her to become the communications professional she is today. 😁 "Keep a positive outlook. You never know how your conversation with a customer will go. Sometimes you’ll have the nicest customers and other times you’ll have people being rude to you. Just keep a positive mindset and don’t take it personally. Keep it moving and get onto the next customer." 🤝 "Always be approachable. It is important to make customers feel seen – they’re humans too. I’d always communicate with the customers I was checking out and be as friendly as possible. Sometimes I’d even have regulars who would rather wait on my line than go to another person’s register." ✅ "Do your due diligence. When checking customers out at the grocery store, I’d always look ahead on the belt to see what items they had and how I could pack them together. When being a cashier and communications professional, it is always important to think ahead on how you’re going to plan things out." 💬 What was your first summer job? Let us know in the comments! #summerjobs #summertime #firstjob #communicationspro
