YWCA Lancaster reposted this
"My journey as a photographer has been woven with the intricate tapestry of identity," says F&M senior Brandon Webb, a film and media studies major who seemingly always has a camera in his hand. 📷 His photos were part of a recent Phillips Museum student exhibit and the YWCA Lancaster selected him as one of four 2024 Black Artist Waystation artists. The program pays tribute to Lancaster's history as a waystation on the Underground Railroad while celebrating emerging Black artists. With a $2,500 grant, Webb was able to spend his summer filming and producing a documentary described as a love letter to Lancaster City. "This project is about creating your own purpose, following nobody’s rules but your own. I want people to know they can define themselves on their own terms." Come see Webb's film at Lancaster's Black Artist Waystation Final Showcase on Friday, Sept. 13, 7 p.m. at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince Street. This past weekend, YWCA Lancaster had the incredible opportunity to attend the YWCA National's YWomenVote Town Hall, where we joined forces with other YWCA leaders to discuss the most pressing issues affecting women, girls, and marginalized communities ahead of the upcoming election season. We were able to connect with other YWCA's and even had the honor of meeting YWCA USA CEO Margaret Mitchell, whose leadership continues to inspire us as we work to empower and uplift those in our community. Thank you to YWCA USA for hosting such an impactful event and for continuing to champion change through civic engagement. Together, we are building a more equitable future for ALL!
