As the Democratic National Convention approaches, Chicago Sun-Times recognizes the powerhouse behind our city: working women. From restaurant servers to transit workers, they're pivotal to our daily lives. Despite strides like paid time off, many women still face unjust wages and limited career paths. We must ensure equity and fair pay for all women in Chicago, especially those of color. Let's ensure all working women thrive, not just during DNC, but year-round! #WorkingWomen #ChicagoStrong #EqualityForAll #YWCAChicago

Today, on #EqualPayDay, we are proud to work with our clients, community, and team to advance the discussion about the ongoing issue of pay disparity. According to a new Indeed survey, 42% of U.S. women have never asked for a raise due to fear of repercussions. Further, a Glassdoor community poll showed that 66% of professional women do not believe they are being compensated fairly. This figure has increased by 6% since 2023. Working with our community and clients, we're committed to transparency, open dialogue and working towards a more equitable future. https://lnkd.in/eE_AA_aK https://lnkd.in/eBgKdHQw #CloseTheGap

Today, March 12th, marks Women’s Equal Pay Day, a poignant reminder of the persistent gender pay gap endured by women in the United States. Regrettably, women still earn in 15 months what white men make in 12, and full-time working women make 84 cents for every dollar a white man earns in a similar position. This ongoing disparity demands urgent and meaningful change. In late 2023, the Executive Women of New Jersey (EWNJ) unveiled its biennial report titled “A Seat at the Table: A Decade of Perseverance and Progress.” This report, the sole examination of women’s representation in corporate leadership at public companies in New Jersey, revealed significant strides. Notably, there was a historic decline from 30% to a mere 3% of companies in New Jersey with no female board members. Despite this progress, challenges persist. The number of women CEOs remains unchanged, and women of color continue to be sorely underrepresented in top corporate positions. At EWNJ, we believe employers play a pivotal role in closing the wage gap, and the change starts in the boardroom. By supporting women’s advancement through both mentorship and sponsorship and building inclusive cultures that champion growth for all, we can send a powerful message across generations. In reaffirming our commitment, we call on corporations to adopt practices that not only achieve pay equity but also actively increase the representation of women, particularly women of color, in the top leadership of their companies. Our message is clear: our daughters deserve a more equitable and inclusive future.

2024 Equal Pay Day Calendar Today is Women’s Equal Pay Day. But this is not a celebration, it is a reminder of the work that remains to be done. Including as we look deeper, the longer period before select groups can achieve pay parity for equal work. Per AAUW, here are remaining pay days occurring later in the year: Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Women’s Equal Pay Day – April 3 LGBTQIA+ Equal Pay Awareness Day – June 13 Black Women’s Equal Pay Day – July 9 Moms’ Equal Pay Day – August 7 Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) Women’s Equal Pay Day – August 28 Latina Equal Pay Day – October 3 Native Women’s Equal Pay Day – November 21 As I work with majority women clients on their wealth and retirement, the impacts of experiencing long-term pay gap leads to a wealth gap, a retirement gap, a generational wealth gap for their children and their children’s children, and an impact for our economy as a whole. While work continues to be done to improve this problem, if you are of the mindset that you rather not wait for a seat at the table, but rather start your own table, then strategize and put a plan in place to take your leap forward. There are many amazing organizations that are doing wonderful work to support women entrepreneurs or improve the funding gap for women-led businesses. #TheMorningInclusive Today is #EqualPayDay. This is not a day of celebration but a day to recommit ourselves to champion strong pay equity policies. This day underscores how far into the year women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year. Despite progress, women still earn 84 cents for every dollar earned by men, with even wider gaps for women of color and women with disabilities. Women’s History Month reminds us of the countless women who have paved the way for progress, equality, and justice. Their legacies fuel our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone is valued equally, and pay equity is a cornerstone of this value. Pay equity is more than compliance with laws; it’s about fairness, respect, and recognizing the true worth of every employee’s contributions. It incentivizes motivation, boosts productivity, and fosters a positive work environment. Moreover, strong pay equity policies are linked to higher retention rates, reducing the costs associated with turnover. As leaders and advocates for change, we must champion policies that ensure pay equity. It’s not just about correcting past injustices; it’s about building a future where diversity, inclusion, and equality are the norms, not the exceptions. Let’s use this month to reaffirm our commitment to pay equity. Let’s audit our practices, engage in open conversations, and implement policies that reflect our dedication to fairness. Together, we can create a workplace that truly honors the spirit of Women’s History Month and the essence of Equal Pay Day. Let’s continue to push for a world where pay equity is not an aspiration but a reality. #WomensHistoryMonth #EqualPayDay #PayEquity #DiversityAndInclusion #Belonging = #Inclusion * (#Diversity + #Equity) ^ #Accessibility https://lnkd.in/ezXiVj3n

This will be a great event to learn about some of the myths around Equal Pay Day and the Gender Pay Gap. The research by The Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) reveals that despite equal pay being a legal requirement since 1969, gender discrimination, family responsibilities, and job type segregation continue to contribute to a gender pay gap of 12%. Ladies that equates to having to work 50 more days into the new financial year to earn the same, on average, as men did last year.
BPW Coffs Coast is hosting an event to mark Equal Pay Day 2024 - 19th August 2024. EPD is not just about equal pay, it's about inequality all throughout our lives, inequalities which affect our futures, and the futures of our daughters and granddaughters. BPW Coffs Coast is joining the nationwide movement and has decided to take action. Where: The Big Banana Theme Park When: 5:30 PM, Monday, 19 August Cost: $35 (includes light refreshments and Fun Zone access; drinks at own cost) Dress Code: Wear RED Tickets on Eventbrite: https://bit.ly/4dnKdnP The gender pay gap isn’t just a statistic—it’s a reality shaped by discrimination that exists due to unequal industries, lack of workplace flexibility, and unpaid carers work, still typically roles taken on by women in society. These factors don’t just lower our earnings; they rob us of opportunities, career progression, and even security in retirement. "At age 60, women retire with 25% less super than men. This affects all of us— students coming out of uni, young women entering the workforce, mothers balancing careers and caregiving, and every woman who has to work twice as hard to be seen, valued, and paid what she’s worth." Join us on August 19th. For ourselves, for every woman, it’s time to close the gap. No more excuses. Tickets on Eventbrite: https://bit.ly/4dnKdnP

Happy Single Working Women Day 🎊🎀🩷 🩷🩷👩💻🧑🚒👮♂️🧕🩷🩷 What is Single Working Women’s Day? ✔️Equal Rights for All ✔️Single Parents What is Single Working Women’s Day? Single Working Women’s Day is celebrated on the 4th of August every year. It was founded by Barbara Payne in 2006. It is a day to recognize the important role single working women play in day-to-day life. Payne thought of creating the single working women’s network to draw attention towards the women who are working and doing all the tasks. With gazillion problems women face every day, not receding equal paychecks was one of them. ✔️✔️Equal Rights for All✔️✔️ It is necessary that single working women get the same rights as men. Some ways through which equality can prevail for both men and women are: Equal pay protection. Shorter workdays. Equal leave rights. ✔️✔️Single Parents✔️✔️ For single working women, every day is a struggle to implement their choices and justify them to those who become obstacles to their success and happiness. Barbara also brought attention to the women who are the sole workers in their respective families. It is important to work for a company that listens and then determines how you provide solutions to the concerns – whether it’s pay equity, flexible hours, assistance finding child care and elder care, or unconscious bias training. Barbara Payne’s concept of Single Working Women’s Day is a great initiative to help to bring attention to single working women. It is amazing that progressive companies are already reviewing their policies and practices to accommodate all members of their workforce Quotes; ✔️It’s not easy to be a woman working alone in a society where standards would prefer that you be connected to cooking. Women are breaking stereotypes, that are much needed in today’s time. ✔️Our first job in life as women is to get to know ourselves.🌹 I think a lot of times we don’t do that. We spend our time pleasing, satisfying, looking out into the world to define who we are. https://lnkd.in/eNWDQ9qG https://lnkd.in/eWWPDxeJ
