I've had an incredible 8 weeks, working on projects I would have never dreamed to be a part of and meeting some of the coolest people. But, I have the say, the most exciting thing of all was that I got to vote…for myself!!! And I won (although unopposed but, hey, a win is a win!). The decision to run occurred through a series of conversations over the last decade, along with an increased involvement in local and national conversations about biotechnology, the environment, and education. But one that stands out was with a close friend, who said: ‘You should only run for office if there are things you want to change’. At the time that wasn’t the case, but over the last decade, I’ve learned that, while things are pretty good, we need to do more and move faster to prepare for the coming future. We need to modernized our systems, create opportunities for housing and food security, rapidly adapt our education systems to reflect the role of AI and other advances, deploy cleaner, greener technologies, and make significant advances in healthcare, especially in diagnostics and preventative medicines. But most importantly, we need to learn to work together. Because the problems we need to solve are too big to do them alone and it’s only through kindness, cooperation, and collaboration that we will be able to do it. So, as a first step, I ran for town meeting member as a way to learn more about the inner workings of my town. Over the next 3 years, I’m excited to learn more about how my town and precinct are planning for these futures and accelerating our preparedness. And I look forward to contributing my views to these important discussions. Who knows what this will lead to, but for now, I’m looking forward to being the change I wish to see in my small sliver of the world. Picture is from a recent visit to DC, from one of my favorite spots in DC.

Today's CAP Board Member Spotlight is on Scott Baity Executive and Chief Legal Counsel at Baptist Health. We are grateful to our dedicated board of directors who assist us in bridging our mission with the needs of our students. Please join us in getting to know them and celebrating all they do for our community! ❓How long have you lived in Jacksonville? 🅰️ I was born and raised in Jacksonville. ❓What are three adjectives you’d use to describe yourself? 🅰️ I’ll follow Anthony’s 3 Cs theme -- calm, curious and collaborative. ❓What’s your favorite thing about CAP or the CAP Board? 🅰️ Really, just seeing the impact CAP has on kids and our community. There are a lot of well-intended organizations with lofty ideals, but knowing CAP puts its mission into action and has actual and measurable impact on kids is the best. ❓What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? 🅰️ It’s not about you. Make it about others.

✨️Happy Fri-yayyyy!!! We made it another week🙌🏿! I hope you made some progress in your personal goals and advanced your organization's goals too. This weekend, to everyone celebrating Spring🌻, may you smile BIG, laugh OFTEN, and enjoy your families. Whatever you do, when next week comes, and we do this all again...why not join me and others... As we work TOGETHER, for the GREATEST GOOD of course! But before you close out this week, here is a visual of change 👇🏿 demonstrated by a berry🫐🍓 AND Some light reading 📚to help encourage your heart AND give context as we seek to declutter clunky processes and ideas: "Government should be collaborative. Collaboration actively engages Americans in the work of their Government. Executive departments and agencies should use innovative tools, methods, and systems to cooperate among themselves, across all levels of Government, and with nonprofit organizations, businesses, and individuals in the private sector. Executive departments and agencies should solicit public feedback to assess and improve their level of collaboration and to identify new opportunities for cooperation."
