Considering the bicycle as a mode of transportation, it is crucial to emphasize that only data on its usage are being considered, not data on bicycle ownership. It must be understood that the bicycle itself has three possible uses: Recreational, for those who use it solely for leisure and recreational purposes in parks and other urban and suburban amenities. Sportive, for those who use it for physical improvement, training, competition, or as part of a health care plan, either in fixed mode or in sports facilities. As a means of transportation, either total or multimodal. Having said that, we must also address issues such as topography and distance climate. Are bike lanes being constructed worldwide because they are necessary as a mobility option, or simply because they have become a trend that governments feel compelled to follow? #Mumbai's skyline boasts a new #engineering marvel – the longest sea #bridge in #India. The Atal Setu opened in January 2024 and stretches 16.5 km over the sea and 5.5 km on land. The six-lane bridge slashes travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai from two hours to just 20 minutes. In February 2024, the new landmark hosted its first marathon event. Almost 3,000 runners participated in 42km, 10km, and half-marathon races, taking in the scenic coastline views. Formerly known as the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), construction began in 2019 and cost a total of ₹17,843 crore (USD 2.2 billion). #Bentley's #ProjectWise software leveraged in this project as a collaborative tool between all the stakeholders. #SYSTRA used #3D modeling to design the #highway, promenade, sea retaining walls, junction, and interchange. Because of the limited space, the project team had to reclaim land from the sea, while the interaction of many of the components had to be visualized to detect and resolve clashes. Construction of the bridge required the use of 165,000 tonnes of reinforcement steel, 96,250 tonnes of structural steel, and 830,000 cubic meters of concrete. The MTHL features an Open Road Tolling system for seamless travel, 1,212 special light poles, and a see-through crash barrier. With a daily capacity of 70,000 vehicles, the bridge promises to significantly improve the region's transport and connectivity.
