The welcomed return of the peak season provided some positivity to the air freight market following a lacklustre couple of years, according to the latest update from TAC Index. "The only upturn in rates in 2022 was due to the invasion of Ukraine that caused capacity disruptions from the closure of Russian air space and the loss of Russian airlines such as AirBridgeCargo, which were significant capacity providers. Since then, it has been a constant downward trend until the first green shoots emerged in September." #TACIndex #China #HongKong #US #Europe #RedSea #Vietnam #aircargo

🚨 Breaking News! 🚨 US airlines are urging the Biden administration to address what they see as a competitive disadvantage with Chinese carriers. In a letter signed by the industry lobby group Airlines for America, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg are being asked to halt approval for additional flights to and from China. The situation is a result of Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine. The most direct air routes from the United States to China fly over the north pole and rely on the use of Russian airspace, which China has unrestricted access to. In contrast, U.S. airlines must navigate around Russian airspace to reach China, leading to longer transit times and higher costs for airfreight. The political capital behind this petition indicates that we have yet to see the full impact that these developments will have on airfreight rates. At Tranco, we know the challenges this creates for your supply chain. Our dedicated team is ready to help you navigate the situation with solutions tailored specifically to your business. September’s global air cargo market lived up to analysts’ expectations, becoming the first month of 2024 not to report double-digit growth due to a strong year-on-year comparison but demand still rose nine percent year-on-year, according to the latest data from Xeneta. Niall van de Wouw, Chief Airfreight Officer, Xeneta says: “September is already old news. October is a whole new ballgame. We could see rates rising very quickly on some trade lanes because of the fear-of-missing-out (FOMO) effect as air cargo capacity leaves the market for the winter, U.S. port workers go on strike and conflict is escalating in the Middle East, potentially bringing further Red Sea disruption for ocean freight. “I have huge respect for the people who, on a day-to-day basis, are trying to make sense of these challenges and keep the world moving in an efficient manner. How much more can the market take, particularly when there’s so little visibility going forward? Reports suggest supply chains could take 4-6 weeks to recover from just a one-week U.S. ports strike, which takes us into November, the busiest month of the year for air cargo volumes. It’s a difficult situation. Covid was worse but this is an accumulation of many events and things can change very quickly. FOMO is a powerful force." ✈️ Follow STAT Times for the latest updates in air cargo and aviation.✅🌍 #Xeneta #USportstrike #aircargomarket #aircargo #aircraft 👉 𝐓𝐨 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞: https://lnkd.in/g5ySQRMT

After The Nordic Air Cargo Symposium in Stockholm, I had some time to reflect on the topics we discussed and the solutions we proposed. I’m pleased to report that the air cargo market has recovered to its pre-COVID capacity levels, driven by e-commerce and positive global trade trends. ✈️ At the event, we delved into the current trends of the North European air cargo market, Norwegian operations, and sustainability matters. I believe the North European market serves as a significant barometer for global and regional trends. For example, our operations in Norway, including the export of Norwegian salmon to China, highlight the necessity of diversifying cargo opportunities to avoid over-reliance on single markets. At Strike Aviation, we are expanding our range of goods in Norway and other markets to diversify our service offerings. However, challenges remain. Restrictions over Russian airspace have increased costs for European carriers, benefiting Chinese and Middle Eastern counterparts. This poses a competitive disadvantage for European carriers, as their Chinese and Middle Eastern counterparts, unaffected by these restrictions, gain an edge. 🗺️ I had a sitdown with Freightweek recently, you can read more about my thoughts in the full article here: https://bit.ly/a5sf3 #StrikeAviation #AirCargo #Freightweek #Logistics #MarketTrends #NordicAirCargoSymposium #StrikeAviationGroup
