Making Great Theatre Accessible For All This has been my companies tag line ever since I started the business, but recently, it has become so much more. When I started Shooting Stars in 2007, I was thinking that, as long as our shows were cheap enough, that would be enough... But then I realised there is so much more to it than cheap... and unfortunately, I couldn't build a great company if it was going to be the cheapest. I had to start trusting that people would book us on more than just cheap... and they do. But I was still aware of that tagline and the importance of living up to that sentence. We introduced BSL into our Early Years shows just under a decade ago, and we offered shorter, more compact performances at SEND schools requests. But it was when Gemma became our SEND Lead that things truly began to improve. Now we: * Include an SEND form with every booking, giving everyone a chance to tell us their needs * Offer relaxed and/or sensory introductions to our performances * Have begun to incorporate Makaton * Can provide social stories upon request * Train all of our performers on the adaptations they can make, such as no loud noises or static lights, to ensure everyone enjoys the show And on the financial side? We may no longer be the cheapest... but our Starlight Pass definitely means we offer the most value for money. It's great to see this sponsorship. I'm taking some time to learn photography and see the UK through a different eye. When we reach retirement we hopefully have time to drag ourselves away from the Box and follow our passions. Life really is too short, so taking time to listen to music, take photographs, dance, spending time with family and travel makes those working years worth it.
