[143/365] It takes everyone to raise a child. The oft-repeated truism of "it takes a village to raise a child" understates the importance of clarifying the roles stakeholders play when doing so. Parents are not the child's teachers. Teachers are not the child's parents. Both play unique yet complementary roles in nurturing the whole child. ---------- Some hard questions should be addressed: 1️⃣ Do we agree on the desired outcomes for the child? 2️⃣ What do we actually mean when we say "home-school partnership"? 3️⃣ Who is more responsible in shaping the child's values? 4️⃣ What happens when a stakeholder is unwilling/unable to play their part? ---------- Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE), in partnership with Whitehatters Limited, is seeking feedback from parents and educators to co-create the future of home-school partnerships (see post below). I hope a diversity of voices and opinions will get involved, rather than just the motivated minority. If you are interested, you can sign up via https://lnkd.in/gUsM9XEh Shahrany Hassan

Parents play a vital role in the education of their special needs kids. They can advocate for their child's needs, provide support and encouragement, and help them to reach their full potential. Here are some ways that parents can support their child's education: 1. Get to know your child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP). This document outlines your child's educational goals and services. 2. Be an advocate for your child. Speak up for their needs at school and in the community. 3. Provide your child with a supportive home environment. This includes providing them with the resources they need to succeed, such as books, computers, and quiet study space. 4. Get involved in your child's education. Volunteer at their school, attend parent-teacher conferences, and stay up-to-date on their progress. Remember, you are your child's first and most important teacher. With your support, they can achieve anything they set their minds to. #parenthood #education #disabilities #advocacy #support #IEP #selfadvocacy #inclusion #acceptance #hope #love #TPCC

At Educare, we’re in pursuit of a future where every child, family and community can thrive! Read about how our Network of high-quality early programs is helping to nurture children, what pro-child policies look like, and more in this NYT article by Nick Kristof: https://lnkd.in/gdqHsvYe
Friday morning clarion call made by Nicholas Kristoff in the #newyorktimes today: "We Americans Neglect Our Children." https://lnkd.in/gymniKjM If you have a child in your life, or know someone who does, or you're an American who cares about our country (pick one -- any one -- of these categories), this is for you: "Individually, we adore and pamper our children. We shuttle them from soccer practice to music lessons and then organize their play dates with meticulous fanaticism. Yet collectively, we mistreat America’s children, especially by the standards of other wealthy countries... Children are more likely to go hungry or live in poverty in America than in most of our peer countries..." He goes on to share concrete solutions, one of them being Educare Schools https://lnkd.in/gz9s5cBP. We can, we must get this right. Parents, stand up. Citizens, stand up. "The best metric for a society’s future is how well it nurtures its next generation. So this election year, let’s look beyond the political horse race and culture war to grill candidates on their policies toward children — and thus our country’s future." #StartEarly #familiesfirst #nextgeneration #birthtofive #earlychildhood #earlychildhooddevelopment

"Paying it forward" is a concept rooted in the idea of doing good deeds for others without expecting anything in return, with the hope that those who benefit from these deeds will, in turn, help others. "Paying it forward" through community service is an area that has innumerable positive implications, and I work to consistently embrace it. We can create a "chain of goodwill" by inspiring someone or a group to help others. This creates a ripple effect, where one act of kindness leads to another, potentially impacting many more people than the original act. The "paying it forward" approach can cultivate a culture of generosity and kindness within a community. Seeing others helping without expecting a return can encourage them to adopt the same mindset. "Paying it forward" empowers individuals, giving them a sense of purpose and fulfillment. It shows that everyone, regardless of their situation, can contribute positively to the lives of others. And there is a cumulative advantage to doing "small, consistent acts of kindness." When we engage in acts of kindness, we often gain a deeper understanding of the challenges others face, fostering empathy and a more inclusive community spirit. The effects of "paying it forward" can be long-lasting. The beneficiaries of today's acts of kindness may become the helpers of tomorrow, ensuring a sustained impact over time. This is why I am particularly drawn to serving the purpose of educating and caring for young girls through service to Girls Inc. Through Girls Inc., we are planting seeds for more compassionate, connected, smart, strong women in the future. #payitforward #actsofkindness #communitylove #strongsmartbold #girlsincmiami https://lnkd.in/ev7VYCNY
