Here’s how being stationed in Kentucky made me better at sales. JOHN RENKEN, CPD 🇺🇸 over at Sales Platoon with AllegiantVets was on the topic of nonverbals when I was reminded of a time I was a much fluffier private stationed at Fort Campbell Kentucky. I always made a ritual of trying to stay as far away from my bathroom as possible (to my benefit and detriment.😂) One of the things I quickly realized just how much I loved interacting with the locals, I thought maybe it was just the novelty of being away from home and being in such a unique place. But then it occurred to me that there was something else to it, “southern hospitality” or soft skills were ingrained in the culture there. For example… Seller A: “The program is $40. You can go to our website and check it out for yourself.” Seller B: “Our program is $40, I’ll be more than happy to provide you a link and assist you if you have any questions.” Even if you prefer to check on your own, who are you more inclined to go to? As you’re out representing your company and brand, don’t be afraid to do it with a smile or go the extra mile for somebody, you could not only got a sale, but fix a bad day as well! #sales #softskills #transition #businessdevelopment

The last 8.5 years at D5 and Song were invaluable. From Super Bowl to experiential, creative to measurement and media planning, I learned so much from all the amazing humans that have made D5/Song a powerhouse. Great culture in action! Part of Secure Data's sales team getting together outside of work. As a leader one of the many talks I have is that culture is a two way street. Great culture is absolutely a top down driven "every day" initiative, but to be successful it requires everyone to participate. Early in 2023, I came to an interesting realization: salespeople are dogs. Let me explain. When it comes to gifts, I like to provide experiences rather than just things. So last winter, I took my family on a dog sled adventure. I'm not champion musher, so I sat back and let the professionals do their magic. Watching how the dogs, and the human steering the sled, worked together was super inspiring and made me reflect on teamwork. During a sledding trip, it's not just about the dog up front leading the pack, or the ones who are the strongest. Every dog on the sled team has its place where it thrives and serves the ultimate goal—to win the race! The same should go for a sales team. To do solution sales, the key is to be authentically yourself. And to have an effective sales team, you need to know yourself enough to do what you do best. Not everyone needs to be the superstar. A well put-together team includes dogs—or salespeople—of all shapes and sizes. As long as they're in the right place, they all have something to contribute to the team's success. Prospects: - Know how the sales race will end. - Are aware that they are leading the race. - Act as if salespeople are not in their league. - Do not lower their status by engaging unnecessarily. Here, the prospect is the cheetah, and salespeople are the dogs - running to close deals, respond to requests, send proposals, and remain constantly available. To have equal business stature as the cheetah, you need to acquire advanced skills or You will forever be a dog from the image in a sales conversation. One quirk that I love about selling in Chicagoland is that "knowing your customer" takes on a whole new meaning Just as important as asking about their kids and what their favorite hobbies are, is knowing.. -Cubs fan or Sox fan -Which suburb they live in and which traffic they fight the most -Which hot dog stand or local deli is the best in their area (and be ready to take them there for lunch, instant street cred!) I once made the mistake of calling a die-hard Cubbies fan a Sox fan during the worst White Sox season in modern times.. and nearly got boo'd out of the office 😅. I'll never do that again.
